What a joy to have received the Golden Fleece Award Special Merit Prize in the craft and applied art category.
On the 25th anniversary of the award, the impact of founder Lillias Mitchell manifests in those who followed in her path. She was a dedicated practitioner of immense yet delicate skill who inherently understood the value in craft and keenly championed future generations in developing their skills and pursuing craft as a meaningful career.
That the award is born of the landscape of Irish craft is held close and treasured. Each freshly imagined expression of lace, crochet, and smocking at RÓISÍN PIERCE is an act of preservation for intergenerational skill, passed onto me by my mother which I have then stewarded with care.
Beloved hands, which span generations, fabricate with unapologetic delicacy and diligence.
I am grateful to Lillias Mitchell for a lifetime of tireless support of the arts in Ireland and to the advisory panel and the trustees for continuing her legacy and recognising the purity of expression within our work with this wonderful award.
