Hello all!! We had a fantastic Guru-pournima celebration on 27th July 2024 at The Harmonium Institute gurukul in Southampton, PA. We had more than 30 performances by students of all ages and levels. It was a privilege to have several senior musicians and artistes in the audience such as Mehr Afshan Farooqi, celebrated author and Professor of Urdu and South Asian Literature at University of Virginia, Richard Cohen - professor of middle eastern and south asian languages and culture at the Unviersity of Virgina, Smt. Usha Kallianpurkar , Pt. Samir Chatterjee Samir Chatterjee, Pt. Madhav Bhatki, Smt. Mitali Bhawmik, and Smt. Indrani Chakraborty. After a day of student performances including solo harmonium and vocal we had a vocal recital - Sawan ki Sanjh by Smt. Astha Shukla in the evening. She regaled us with rare compositions of sawan such as thumris and jhulas. We had great support from many tabla players who accompanied students during the day. Sincere thanks to all of them - Suresh Ramaswamy, Neil Khare, Archit Krishna, Ashish Deshpande, Rahul Palnitkar, Naren Holla, Archana Holla Saurav Patel, Karthik Mahesh Ramakrishna, Abhinav Acharya.
