Today would have been my Grandma Alma’s 91st birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA!!! This card served as her registration & release from The Sisters of Good Shepherd Convent, where she lived as “Andrea” for her 16th year after being returned from running away to LA and living on the lam. My Grandma was a rebel in her own right, but blossomed in the care of The Sisters - from whom I received her records last year. They’re still serving women in San Francisco to this day 🙏🏽 As a woman who also once needed the care of a women’s treatment home, I cannot thank The Sisters enough for the life they encouraged my Grandmother to build. The work of women like them, religious or not, is perhaps a reason my Grandmother & I connected so deeply. She was also a bit of a runt, so she knew where I was coming from 👩👧😙 .... SO TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE INCREDIBLE LIFE OF ALMA!! YOU WERE JUST FABULOUS!!! 🌟 ....
