I’ve been a little distant from social media lately, busy working on a few things I can’t wait to share with you 😎, but , it’s still too early, so… In the meantime, many people have asked me about the rhino gumbeast that appears in the end credits of Night of the Zoopocalypse. Here’s the scoop: originally, we developed the rhino mutant to play a pivotal role in the film. We even explored the idea of a second mix-and-match gumbeast built from rhino parts. In the end, the role was cut to keep the storytelling tight. We also felt we had two competing large gumbeasts, the elephant and the rhino, and ended up keeping the elephant. But we loved Hadi Tabasi’s design and walk cycle so much that we decided to memorialize our rhino in the Gumbeast parade during the final credits. Here’s that walk cycle, along with an early version of the character, also by the great @h_tabasi #nightofthezoopocalypse #zoopocalipse #zoopocalipsis #rhino

This has been one of the longest stretches I’ve spent in my beloved Mexico since I first left! These past months have been filled with incredible creative awakenings and beautiful memories shared with loved ones. I’ve also planted a few seeds and started watering something I can’t wait to share with you soon. I’m about to leave, but I’m already planning my return. Gracias, México ❤️🇲🇽

Today, March 7 marks the anniversary of the North American theatrical release of Night of the Zoopocalypse! To celebrate, I’d love to share an excerpt from a sequence I got to storyboard for the film. The audio is not final here, the music is all temp tracks, And if you haven’t seen the movie yet, Warning : there’s a lot of big spoilers here! 😜 Happy Zoopocalypse anniversary to all the gumbeast fans!! 🎉 #nightofthezoopocalypse #zoopocalipsis #storyboard

Night of the Zoopocalypse was released exactly one year ago in French cinemas under the title Une Nuit au Zoo. To celebrate its anniversary, here’s the CG turnaround of the Megagumbeast. All character modeling was done by our awesome French and Belgian team at @mac_guff #nightofthezoopocalypse #unenuitauzoo

It’s been over a year since I decided to go completely independent as a filmmaker to focus on telling my own stories, and it has been a time filled with interesting challenges and incredible creative energy. I wouldn’t want it any other way. Each of these notebooks pictured here is full of sketches, ideas, and notes for individual personal projects I’ve been developing over many years in between studio work, (titles have been redacted for the time being 😉). It’s been incredible to fully dive back into these stories during this time. One project in particular has been gaining a lot of traction over the last few months, something very personal that I’ve been developing on and off for almost 15 years!!. Slowly but surely, a team is forming to help me bring it to life, and hopefully I’ll be able to share more about it in the future. I truly believe the future of animation will be shepherded by those brave enough to take risks, artists committed to preserving the art form while also pushing it into new territory, unafraid to raise their unique voices. That kind of risk taking can only come from independent minded artists doing it themselves or subversing the sudio system, not soulless corporations or companies jumping on the AI slop wagon. We are at a crossroads as artists. It’s time to take risks!.
