The Dry S3 reviews Nancy Harris’ award-winning comedy-drama The Dry is halfway through its third and final season. Here’s what some of the critics have been saying... The Irish Times: “Harris’s script is agreeably wry and impressively relentless” “each 30-minute episode clips by – helped along by some genuinely compelling twists” “it’s great fun to sit down and watch it pour another (non-alcoholic) glass of acutely observed social comedy” The Journal: “The Dry avoids wrapping things up in a way that feels forced or unearned.” “that’s what makes The Dry such a touching watch: the sense that while the family’s dramas can be at times ludicrous, they are nonetheless very real.” “replete with great jokes, but it’s the serious moments that linger after the final episode” Irish Independent: “The plot is really terrific. The action rolls on at a very sharp pace, throwing out surprises and twists as it goes.” Episodes air every Thursday on RTÉ One and all eight episodes available now on RTÉ Player.

Nancy Harris and Cara Loftus are among six top Irish screenwriters interviewed as part of Deadline’s Local to Global series in Dublin, held in association with Screen Ireland. In the interview, the writers discuss their work, their process and Ireland’s film and TV landscape. Nancy, on her award-winning series The Dry – the third and final series is currently airing on RTE: “Because a lot of my start was in London, it was interesting to me how coming back and setting something in Dublin was so freeing because it was second nature,” she said. “I understood the humour and I felt like I knew the world on a really naturalistic, gritty, detailed emotional level. And it just felt free because it felt like home.” Cara talked about the motivations behind writing her award winning debut feature film Spilt Milk, which is in Irish cinemas now: “Looking at the past and looking at patterns that tend to repeat themselves across history, across Irish history, was really important to me,” she said. “Also, I had big questions about community and individualism in Ireland and how you find community, and where you can find that.” Watch the full 40-minute interview now on Deadline.
