This piece took me a while to finish. As a huge Lynch fan, I originally set out to create a quick simple portrait as a tribute to his influence on me. But as I read the news of his passing and the LA wildfires I kept coming back to something Russell Brand said:
“As the fires devoured the city that defined him, he was dying.”
That thought shaped my approach. I wanted to translate that concept into a portrait, to take my time and push myself beyond what I’d usually do.
Back in 2018, I visited the “Someone Is in My House” exhibition at
@bonnefanten , and it completely blew me away. The biggest thing I took from it was how everything Lynch created was authentically his, his world, his vision.
