Curated by journalist Jennifer Mancuso (
@flashingyellowlights ) in collaboration with graffiti writer/artist, Thomas "Kwest" Burns (
@kwest_bws ), this exhibition is part historical archive, part visual study; featuring works on canvas, illustrations, black books, decals, and an immersive installation.
Featured Artists
Timmy "Zone" Allen, Thomas "Kwest" Burns, Barrington "Vex" Edwards, Stephan "Maze" Georges, Ricardo "Deme5" Gomez, Shea Justice, Chepe "Sane" Lena, Rob "Note" Stull, and David "DS7" Taylor, with archival photography by John Brewer.
While billboards equated their artform to vandalism and gang violence, these young men honed their craft and formed a brotherhood of creatives. "We don't exist without each other," says contributing artist Stull of his fellow exhibitors.
AEROSOL brings together legendary Boston graffiti writers to celebrate their early inspirations from Dana Chandler to Gary Rickson, while honoring a time of their youth when the Elevated Orange Line rattled overhead along Washington Street.
"The goal of graffiti is to do what you're not supposed to do." ~ Kwest.
