@robstull24 and I were students @smfaattufts when it was SMFA Boston we were also in the same graduating class. Prior to our graduating (late 80’s) the Black Students decided to have an exhibition for Black History Month that only showcased the work of the Black student body. Black History Month had never been celebrated at SMFA..we broke MAJOR ground with this exhibition. We were fully supported by Dean Mcdonald. We. Ate. And. Left. No. Crumbs. It was a beautiful event. Brother Rob designed the card/invitation for the event. The first 2 images are of the front/back of the invitation. 3rd image is Brother Rob’s envisioning of me as an Afrocentric Futurist warrior. Brother Rob used ‘The Vai Script’ is an African writing system from Liberia West Africa. I had several of these cards..all long gone except this piece. Thank you Brother Rob for ALWAYS being down to HOLD US UP in #realness in #thelight #inlove #us #we #brotherrob #ancestor 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💛💛💛💛

AEROSOL: Boston's Graffiti DNA, its Origin & Evolution Opening Reception Friday, March 14th, at BLKCHIP Gallery 6-9pm 155 Seaport Boulevard Boston, MA 02210 @blkchipgallery Curated by journalist Jennifer Mancuso (@flashingyellowlights ) in collaboration with graffiti writer/artist, Thomas "Kwest" Burns (@kwest_bws ), this exhibition is part historical archive, part visual study; featuring works on canvas, illustrations, black books, decals, and an immersive installation. Featured Artists Timmy "Zone" Allen, Thomas "Kwest" Burns, Barrington "Vex" Edwards, Stephan "Maze" Georges, Ricardo "Deme5" Gomez, Shea Justice, Chepe "Sane" Lena, Rob "Note" Stull, and David "DS7" Taylor, with archival photography by John Brewer. While billboards equated their artform to vandalism and gang violence, these young men honed their craft and formed a brotherhood of creatives. "We don't exist without each other," says contributing artist Stull of his fellow exhibitors. AEROSOL brings together legendary Boston graffiti writers to celebrate their early inspirations from Dana Chandler to Gary Rickson, while honoring a time of their youth when the Elevated Orange Line rattled overhead along Washington Street. "The goal of graffiti is to do what you're not supposed to do." ~ Kwest. #ArtIsLife

Afrofuturism before y'all even knew what it was. Maurice White & Shusei Nagaoka ALL 'n ALL (1977) As the story goes, Maurice didn't speak japanese, and Shusei's english was not very good. However, the language barrier between the two gentlemen did not stand in the way of their legendary collaboration. A series of visually stunning album cover art that I used to stare at for hours, as a child, wondering to myself... "how the hell did he do that?!" As a group, Earth, Wind & Fire are easily one of the top 5 Greatest Of All Time. The album ALL 'n ALL is pure genius. A beautiful musical journey through space and time. A masterclass in storytelling, from the first song to the last. The triple gatefold album cover art, done with flawless execution. A complete masterpiece. #MauriceWhite #ShuseiNagaoka #Visionaries
