A re-elected Perrottet Government will build a 20km walking and cycling track along the Georges River!
Weâre committing $10M towards the masterplan and stage one works for an active transport connection linking Liverpool CBD, Moore Point, Voyager Point, Deepwater Park, Chipping Norton and Sandy Point along the way.
This is a bold vision for Sydneyâs growing south-west along the beautiful Georges River. With commitment and foresight, we can create one of Sydneyâs great walking and cycling tracks.
Weâve seen how popular riverside walking and cycling tracks can become, with the Parramatta to CBD link well on the way to completion and incredibly popular with people right across Sydney. Now we can turn to the Georges River and investigate how we can make this natural treasure a great place to walk, ride, and even swim.
It was wonderful to join @tinaayyad4holsworthy , @wendylindsaymp and Peter McLean from @bicyclensw at Chipping Norton Lake this morning.
Imagine being able to drop your towel here and jump into the harbour for a swim.
Thatâs exactly what youâll soon be able to do at Mooreâs Wharf.
Itâs just next door to the incredibly popular Marrinawi Cove swim spot in Barangaroo, which we opened in January.
This space is currently used as a car park. Weâve committed $5M to transform it into a park for people.
Thanks to @alexgreenwich and the Millers Point community for advocating for this project.
Weâre not just building bike paths in the cities. đľââď¸
Our regions have been huge beneficiaries of the Get NSW Active program.
And it was great to join Wendy Tuckerman MP to announce that a $3.2M walking and cycling path is on the way for Goulburn.
It will connect Goulburn city centre to the south, connecting to existing paths that currently end at Landsdowne and Sloane streets.
This is all about making it safer for people to walk or ride - giving them the option of leaving the car at home.
Construction will begin in early 2024.
Our cities need to be safer for women and girls.
They donât only need to be safer. They also need to feel safer.
This is why we spoke to 5000 women and girls about how we can improve our public spaces.
Girls like Gabby from Our Lady of Mercy College, Parramatta have been instrumental in informing this work.
And thatâs why a re-elected Liberals and Nationals Government will double the Safer Cities budget to $60M, to fund improvements in places like Parramatta Park, around our train stations, our streets and town centres.
It was wonderful to make this announcement alongside @dom.perrottet , @nataliewardmlc and @katiemullens4parra
Parramatta Park is getting a $56M makeover.đł
Weâre realising our vision for the Peopleâs Loop - a 3.2km path for walkers, runners and riders. đ˛
Weâre also restoring historic Glengarriff House and Wistaria Gardens. đ¸
Weâre building two pedestrian bridges - one over
This is all about future-proofing the park to accommodate the expected 65% increase in annual visitors.
It was wonderful to make this announcement with @katiemullens4parra and @geoffleemp
The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is about to get a $200M facelift.
Thanks to Westinvest, this treasured south-west Sydney public space will be transformed with:
đ˛Biodome greenhouses
đď¸ New lakes precinct
𪴠Native farm and First Nations garden
đ¤ Entertainment and event space
đśââď¸Trails and active transport connections
âď¸ New cafe and restaurant
đď¸ Ecotourism
Weâre putting the park in the heart of the parkland city.
Eastern Sydney has its harbour and beaches, Parramatta has its rivers and creeks, and Western Sydney will be defined by freshwater lakes and verdant parklands.
WestInvest quite literally uses a motorway to fund a greenway, delivering a legacy of parks, paths and playgrounds for Western Sydney families to enjoy.
A new waterfront park is coming to Blackwattle Bay! đśđ
Bank Street Park will be a huge drawcard for locals and is set to become a standout feature along the continuous 15 kilometre foreshore walk from Rozelle Bay to Woolloomooloo.
It will be especially accommodating for kayakers, canoers and the Dragon Boat community, who will be able to paddle from Rozelle Bay to Blackwattle Bay, park their kayak or canoe and have a coffee in the kiosk.
While we consult with the community on the long-term plan for the park, we will open up part of the area by building a multi-purpose sports court for all to enjoy.
It wasnât so long ago that @dom.perrottet wanted the White Bay Power Station knocked down.
But just as St Paul was converted on the road to Damascus - Dom was converted on the road to Rozelle.
It was great to visit the power station with Dom again - this time without a hazmat suit - and see the progresss made over the last 2.5 years following our $88M investment in remediation.
Now weâre edging ever closer to the day it can be opened to the public for the first time as a world-class cultural destination, alongside a new harbourside precinct twice the size of Barangaroo.
Powerhouse Parramatta is an important project for the people of Western Sydney.
So itâs fitting that itâs being built by the people of Western Sydney.
More than $75M in contacts have been awarded to Western Sydney businesses.
This is on the back of Lendleaseâs target for 70% of the workforce to be made up of Western Sydney locals.
The $178 billion of projects weâve delivered and the $116 billion pipeline of projects on the way arenât just leaving a legacy of city-shaping infrastructure.
Theyâre also powering our economy and have provided work to hundreds of thousands of people right across the state.
We've made a small yet incredibly significant change to the road rules.
When I met Steve Lyons in Port Macquarie last September, it was illegal for him to use an e-skateboard, his chosen mobility device, to get around.
Steve was born without legs and one-functioning arm. An e-skateboard liberated him from reliance on other people to get around.
Yesterday I returned to Port Macquarie to meet with Steve and @leslie_williams_mp to bring the good news. E-skateboards are now permissible on roads and footpaths for those with a mobility impairment.
Often it's the little changes we make that can have the biggest impact.
As Steve said: "It's a bit overwhelming ... as to how big a deal something as small as my electric skateboard being now legal, actually is... and how many people I don't know that this will affect in a life-changing way."
