This song was in progress before the tragic events in Minneapolis. I am releasing it now in solidarity with those resisting state violence in Minnesota and elsewhere. The video includes footage of a Nazi Youth rally. The parallel is unmistakable: the shock troops of twenty-first-century authoritarianism are now active in the streets of the United States, killing with impunity while shredding constitutional norms. I am sickened by this assault on basic decency, and I mourn the dead. The “Jesus” invoked by these right-wing zealots bears no resemblance to the Christ of the Gospels.
In July I performed a custom set for the @district_fringe festival! It was called "Robby Parrish's DISCO of Existential Concerns." I took my most doom filled ballads and performed them to a disco beat in honor of the drive-in-like-summer-vibe of the outdoor venue. Here's the intro to a dreary number called "Oil Barons." This time a week ago I played a show as part of @district_fringe at the UDC Amphitheater. It was my first outdoor show and the first time I played with video I made! One step closer to the multimedia shows I was aiming for when I picked up guitar during COVID. Thanks to @seamonstercircus for introducing me to the fringe folks and thanks to District Fringe for booking me! One more weekend of Fringe shows this weekend, GO!! This is part of the free outdoor programing for the new District Fringe Festival! I am very excited to be part of the Fest (I love the FRINGE!!)! I’ll be at the UDC Amphitheater to checkout tonight’s performances, including my friend Safety Bear at 7:15! Come out tonight and on the 17th! My show will feature four on the floor/danceable versions of my songs paired with some brand new/old videos! Part Disco, part Drive-In!
TONIGHT at 7 pm at @simplebarandgrill I will be staging a performance as a supervisory employee leading a mandatory office retreat for The United States of the Technological Utopia, Inc. (USTU).
