Blank Rainbow was initially a documentation project done on a whim. Nothing serious but still consistent. Just “something” to do over the year. The common thread of this whole documentation project is that it was all done by analogue means. There was thought of maybe running a production house or a photography agency with analogue cameras, but it seems becoming a corporate slave was more promising.
The name can be confusing. The banal inspiration came from colouring book at home owned by @robonggo 's nephew. The black and white outline of a rainbow seemed so dull. But finally, each colour is filled in. Maybe that is what Kriyanto of Jamrud felt, laughed at by the wall-mounted clock as he remained speechless at the beauty of the rainbow.
That concept is what @robonggo offers all of you holding volume 1 of this zine. We hope this collection of photos can be a part of your “black & white” life.

Our first trip down to the southern coast of Java, Batukaras.
Twelve hours on the road each way with the Junk Rides crew, bringing along our beloved bikes. We rode along the shoreline, chased the sea breeze, and climbed hills so steep we questioned our own sanity while doing it. But somehow, that’s part of the joy.
Hopefully there’ll be more coastlines to explore with this bike and these good people.
Oh, and for now… I think I’m taking a short break for some seafood.
