Rob Jaczko (
@robjaczko ) is a veteran recording engineer, educator, and Chair of the Music Production & Engineering Department at Berklee College of Music.
His passion for recording started early, childhood visits to Media Sound Studios in New York, where his uncle worked, exposed him to legendary sessions by artists like Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. Jaczko studied audio recording at Berklee (class of ’83), originally as a drummer, but he switched focus when it became clear studio work suited him better. He cut his teeth at Blue Jay Recording Studios in Massachusetts, then moved to the legendary A&M Studios in Hollywood in 1989, working on albums by top‑tier artists across genres.
After returning to Boston in the mid‑’90s, he joined Berklee’s faculty; by 2000 he became chair of the department, a position he’s held for decades, guiding future generations of engineers and helping shape Berklee’s reputation for excellence in music production and engineering.
Driven by curiosity and a love for both the technical and human side of recording, Rob continues to combine hands‑on engineering work with mentoring, always emphasizing collaboration, empathy, and the craft of sound.
Rob’s top tip? Have an opinion, but be flexible to abandon it when a better idea comes along. 🌟
