They prey on our fears and insecurity, and turn us against each other because it's profitable to do so. Working class immigrants with their foreign languages and cultures have never been the problem. The woke LGBTQ community with their androgyny and pronouns have never been the problem.
It's the billionaires, yo. The Epstein class. The tech industry fascist nerd oligarchs. If we can't at least come together to stand against them, then wtf are we doing here?
I love lazy weekend days, sitting around doodlin'. Here's a rock garden outside Vancouver City Hall.
Specifically it is the Manzo Nagano garden, built in 1977. 100 years earlier in 1877 he became the first known Japanese immigrant in Canada.
In 1979, Lene Lovich (born in the US, moved to the UK at age 13) established herself as a major new wave music figure after writing the lyrics to Cerrone's 'Supernature' at the age of 24. Her debut album 'stateless' two years later grabbed the attention of the music press and was characterized by a blend of idiosyncratic post-punk energy, electronic sounds, and her unique, often yelping vocals done in a similar style as the influential Souixsie and the Banshees. Her unexpected (and cool) hit single "Lucky Number" which peaked at #3 on the UK Singles charts was originally a B-side, but properly re-released to showcase her quirky and theatrical vocal style. Other highlights from this very solid album: "Say When", a cool cover of "I think we're alone now", and "Sleeping Beauty".
I draw a lot of lines, as you guys know. One thing I will not equivocate on is the expectation of equal human rights for all human beings, irrespective of their religion, or gender, or ethnicity or nationality. I'm pretty comfortable with people having different politics than me, different beliefs, a spectrum of ideas of what is 'right' and what is 'wrong' gleaned from their experiences in life. But that right there is my line, guys.
It should not be a controversial stance, as it is the very basic belief principal that anyone with backbone and character should have. I demand it from the society I live in.
It's Rebecca's 53 birthday today! We started dating when we were 17, in grade 11. We moved in together at age 18, and got married at 21. When I'm not with her, I'm thinking about being with her. Unlike me, who loves attention, she does not ever ask for any, despite being one of the most talented artists I've ever met. She is rarely on social media, which these days makes her wiser than most of us. I am left to post about her birthday because she won't. She didn't even want a party, so we're just going out to Richmond and getting some yummy food instead.
Who else is gonna say it? I gotta say it: Rebecca is the least-selfish, kindest, cutest, and funniest -- the total package. My nerd princess of cool. She knows the name of every plant and animal I have ever pointed at and gone "What's that?", including the scientific names and honestly *weird* trivia. I love her so deeply it's kinda hard to put into words, so I'll let a picture articulate a thousand of them.
Gutter Hunter number 4 is coming together and should be ready in the next few months! Here's the back cover which I just finished last night. Cartoonist Kayfabe was a big part of my weekly YouTube watching, as it was for lots of comic creators and readers. The show was one of the key influences in my wanting to make Gutter Hunter zine in the first place, so just doing my bit to make sure it doesn't get forgotten.
You complained, and we here at BOUGIEWORLD HQ listened! You said "Um.. Your larry kinda sucks!". You said "Your Larry looks like Gene Ween from the band Ween!". You said "Is that Jack Tripper with Mr Furley??". WE HEARD YOU.
I present to you, an improved Larry! Thank you for your helpful feedback! I always listen even when it blows, or times like this when it didn't blow, and made me do a much needed revision!
When OMD put this album out in 1981 they proved to a whole generation of music fans that electronic music wasn't just dance music. It could be emotional, and filled with tension and pathos. And then they proceeded to prove they could make *awesome* dance music too. One of my favorite bands of all time.
