Years of photographic investigation around an overlooked and yet geographically and historically significant corner of my home country, South Africa, are culminating in the release of my first book. MAPALAKATA will be published by @gost_books mid 2026. I am currently running a pre-sale of the book along with a limited print sale. Your support in pre-ordering a book (and a print) will help bring MAPALAKATA to life.
The book includes two texts — a short story by @lidudumalingani and an epilogue by @desmondlatham .

Thank you to all who have been involved in helping realise this project over the years. Most importantly, thank you to the subjects of the portraits contained in the book, many of whom are now close friends of mine and have helped me get a little bit closer to understanding the nuances of place in our beautiful country.
NEW PRINTS AVAILABLE — as part of the MAPALAKATA book presale I have just launched the sale of two new prints, “Makhonjwa, 2020” & “Makhonjwa, 2022”.
Both prints are available sized at 24x30”, and as with the other print offerings they are Archival Pigment prints on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Pearl, made by the master printmaker, Alex Schneideman at @flowphotographic in London.
I running these at a tightly limited edition of 8+2AP. So be sure to secure yours soon if you’d like to own them.
These very special images were made in different parts of the same ancient mountain range, a few years apart. The prints are intended to live as a pair, side by side, or individually. The Makhonjwa Mountains are part of the Great Southern Escarpment and form a significant part of the Barberton Greenstone Belt, the unique and ancient geological formation on which the project MAPALAKATA is set. Some believe that these mountains were once the first land to emerge from the waters before the time of continents. Deep beneath them, amongst the seams of gold, are encased traces of some of the oldest known life on earth.
All the details on how to purchase are available via the Kickstarter link in my bio. MAPALAKATA will be published by @gost_books in mid 2026.

Along with the presale of my upcoming book MAPALAKATA, with @gost_books , I am offering a selection of Barberton Greenstone specimens.
Sourced with permission from Pioneer Gold mine / Agnes Galaxy Mines in Barberton and collected in one of the first commercially operated tunnels in Southern Africa — now dormant, yet still occupied by unofficial / illegal mining prospectors.
Barberton Greenstone is a dense, durable metamorphic rock from The Barberton Greenstone Belt, where the images for Mapalakata were made. The Greenstone Belt is one of Earth’s most ancient geological formations, noted for preserving some of the earliest evidence of life on the planet. The stones typically appear green due to minerals like chlorite, actinolite, and serpentine, and often show well preserved volcanic textures like pillow lavas which offer insight into earths early continent forming tectonic movements. Greenstone tends to occur in areas where large gold deposits are highly prevalent.
It is believed that the Makhonjwa mountains, a key part of the Greenstone belt, constitute some of the first land to emerge on earth.
Pre-order a copy of the MAPALAKATA book, along with a vacuum sealed specimen bag containing a Barberton Greenstone sample (5~36g). Limited to 45 samples.
