Meet Robert Long in a Q & A. When did you begin curating and designing lighting? In 2010 I relaunched my Father’s business and the foundation was his 1962 catalog. While curating and making his designs I learned the fundamentals of form and function that have informed my own designs. What has been your biggest inspiration? The 1962 black and white catalog that I rediscovered as a young adult revealed my father’s life work to me and formed a dream to one day build his designs. What is your mantra that keeps you healthy? We are all doing the best we know how. This mantra is rooted in non judgement and affords presence. Tell us about your hobbies. Golf, firewood sourcing,chopping and stacking,tennis, caring and playing with vintage boats, cars and homes.
What actually makes beautiful, customizable lighting fixtures? Machines like this 1950’s Hardinge and others. We’ll be sharing more behind the scenes images of our shop and processes that produce our distinctive line of lighting. In the meantime, it is safe to drink the Kool Aid!
