My good pal and longtime collaborator @eoin_heaney stuck this video together for a song of mine a few years back from a wonderfully grim Alan Clarke film entitles Road. I felt this video never got its proper day in the sun so I’m gonna just drop it here. If you get to the toilet at the end, jump over to YouTube to watch the rest of it or throw some 🔥 in the comments and I’ll upload the second half.
#songofthesummer🔥🔥🔥 😂
I’ve a new song called Lost and Found OUT NOW. Go to the bio.
I decided a while ago to step away from the whole Album cycle malarchy and just do things at my own pace. Record the song, mix the song and then put it out. I often feel there’s a bit of pressure on artists to follow these tried and tested methods so I’ve stopped all of that and it’s been far more enjoyable.
I make music because I love coming into my studio, getting into the flow and embracing the journey. I’m doing this primarily for myself and any rewards external to that are great and all but I keep reminding myself that it’s not the reason I do it. I love music and I love making it and any anything external to that is nice but the reward for me is doing the thing.
So please go and give it a listen if you’re foot loose and fancy free and let me know what you think.
It’s a story I wrote that I’ve turned into a song about a fella who follows his childhood sweetheart over to London to start a life together only for her to shack up with someone else and for him to come back to his own village in Ireland and to look back upon what might have been. It’s a narrative style song which was influenced partially by stuff that John Prine and Bruce Springsteen have done with their work. Let me know what you think.
Big love to @lukejamesmurphymusic for his Lap Steel contribution. @hennessy_stephen for his wonderful artwork and @wolfhound.sound for his helping hand on the mix. Mastered by @ben.rawlins who was most accommodating as well and did a smashing job.

Happy Sunday folks. Here’s the full video for Small Talk
We recommend you jump onto YouTube for a better experience but here it is on the smaller of small screens.
Directed, edited and produced by @stevebattle
Big love to Steve for doing this. We’ve known each other for nigh on 20 years now and been making art in some form or another together since.
Here’s what he said about the making of the vid for those interested
“Setting off on a 2 month trek around South east Asia in January I packed my camera to capture some moments along the way. When Robert contacted me I was in a hotel room on an island in Southern Cambodia unsure if I had enough footage to sustain a music video. I had captured much of Asian street life along the way but there was something about the dream like state of the night train that grabbed my focus.
As I listened to Small Talk for the first time I was drawn to the rhythmic quality of Robert’s guitar picking and the expansive sound of the banjo which in my mind echoed the movement and chug of the train along the tracks, it’s almost hypnotic.
I wanted the video to be simple but the intention was to try and capture a sense of movement and wonder. Each cut became a reflection of fleeting moments, where time seemed to stretch and bend, much like the seemingly endless tracks ahead. It seemed to sync perfectly with the ethereal melody of the song.
In the end, you end up back where you started but hopefully something inside you has changed. Travel and music both possess an incredible ability to change a person in profound ways. And when we return home, the change is subtle, yet undeniable.”
