Delighted to share the news that my smallest portrait of Beth has been shortlisted for the 2024 AIB Portrait Prize at the @nationalgalleryofireland along with 26 other Irish artists.
To say I’m over the moon is an understatement! really so pleased that my miniature painting will be hanging between November and March under the same roof as some of my favourite paintings in Ireland including Goya, Caravaggio and Poussin (shown in this carousel).
This little portrait won a prize in London as part of the @royalminiature society annual exhibition in 2023 so it’s quite well travelled.
Thanks very much to the judges and the National Gallery staff, to Beth of course, Malcolm O’Connell for the framing and to my parents for dropping it to Dublin! Really looking forward to seeing all of the works in person and the work of the AIB Young Portrait Prize shortlisted artists

A lot more cloud action to happen and that fabric will get a little more lively soon but getting somewhere now I think

Hear artist @robertjacksonart discuss his exhibition, 'as below, so above' on at @thewaterfordgalleryofart
This exhibition brings together a selection of Jacksons many and distinct series of works developed over the last 15 years including miniature portraiture and skyscapes (Tiny Skies), fragmented dream infused landscapes (Interruption Paintings), meticulous lace fabric studies (Secret and Solitary Vice), and an incredibly ambitious new large scale work developed specifically for the exhibition, ‘Your soul is a chosen landscape’.
Open Tuesday – Saturday until 20 June 2026
Blurry Headface #212
Someone recently described this painting as reversed fog, in that the closer you try to get the more the image dissolves and fades away
Oil in canvas 30x30cm
On display as part of ‘as below, so above’ @thewaterfordgalleryofart until 20th June
