No. 1 Precarious Group Show opens this Thursday at 6pm!
No. 1 Most Precarious Group Show centres around a re-contextualising of Robert Barta’s Limits of Control. The exhibition combines Barta’s installation with a painting group show, with works by Martin Blake, Ece Candugen, Alice Morey, Duncan Passmore and Anna Virnich.

“Many people walked out of the preview screening of Jim Jarmusch‘s „The Limits of Control“ (2009). Due to it missing a few things that most films possess, ie. a linear narrative. There is also no dramatic tension. The viewer must create their own story, they become the director of their own viewing.
Robert Barta’s „The Limits of Control“, consists of roughly half a million (8mm) metal balls covering the entire floor. To walk on this surface without slipping and falling, visitors must be extremely careful. This way of moving is reminiscent of other states: walking drunk, or on thin ice, or with your eyes closed. It makes participants conscious of their own movements, and both participants and spectators become more aware of one another. It creates a kind of collective entertainment that forces visitors to focus differently on themselves and each other.
As in Jarmusch’s movie, the roles of the artist and audience are reversed. The audience are challenged, and it is up to them how far to go - always knowing that at some point they could lose control.”
