Hand laid beard for Jacob Elordi in Wuthering Heights. The amazing Hair & Make-up Designer Siân Miller ❤️ warned me from the start: we’d be battling rain, wind and constant humidity on the moors — pretty much the worst possible conditions for a laid on beard. I was brought in to create continuity for a block of scenes after Jacob’s natural beard had been shaved for filming needs. To make it hold naturally through the shoot, I worked with a mix of yak back and tail hair for texture, personally permed and dyed to withstand the changing weather conditions. With careful daily maintenance, the beard held up beautifully throughout filming. When I teach in my workshops I’m often asked how many colours I normally use. My answer is always: many… and never enough. 🇬🇧 New Hand-Laid Beards and Beards on Baldiez Workshop In this new workshop, I will cover application techniques, hair treatment methods, and the materials and tools needed to achieve realistic results. Through live demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants will follow the workflow for the creation of character design. Starting from reference analysis, we will explore how to use hair to build volumes and shapes, add structure through texturization, apply color, and complete the process with styling. The workshop will take place in the stunning setting of the Campi Flegrei, at the Hotel La Tripergola, by the sea. Hand-laid beard application for Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager. I was brought in by the fantastic Hair & Makeup Designer @katebenton.mua to create a fully hand-laid beard for Tom Hiddleston, supporting subtle timeline shifts within the story. I used yak hair, selected from a mix of belly and back hair. The hair was dyed and texturised by me to achieve the required tonal variation, softness, and natural irregularity, with close attention to density and growth direction. The beard was then maintained throughout the shoot by the wonderful @rachel.lennon , who was Tom’s Hair & Makeup Artist on the production.
