Lately I’ve been so disconnected from my sensuality… I’ve tried many things; talk therapy, bodywork, reiki, online healings… and nothing seems to really work… apart from my somatic practices. Amidst my disconnect from my sensuality, I’ve still been dancing, and In some ways I kinda had to keep dancing because I committed to hosting Move November and showing up each day with a dance. What is Somatics: very basically put - it is the connection between the mind and body. There are days when it feels hard to be in my body… Sometimes I’m confronted with disassociation, shutdown or fatigue… And often it is through dance that I’m able to go into these harder feelings and emotions that I can then access lightness, sensuality, bliss and ecstatic states through the mind-body connection. 👉🏽 I have a playlist of sensual & s€xy songs that I put on to evoke this energy…. 👇🏼🎧 Drop me an emoji if you want me to send you this playlist - or comment below your fav songs to evoke your sensuality (guys - this includes you too!) . . . #somaticpractices #dancetherapy #somaticdance #somatictips #danceandemotions #somatictherapy #movementtherapy #somaticmovement #somaticeducation

I often hear people sharing that “talk therapy doesn’t work” My heart sinks because most likely it is because of the following: ⬇️ 1. Wrong therapist- the therapeutic relationship MATTERS , sometimes it’s not the right fit, and sometimes (I’ll be honest) - the therapist is just not great. 2. Wrong modality - sometimes you need to experiment with different modalities, there are so many different theories and practices so trying different ones can support you getting clarity on what resonates most right now (this can change overtime too). 3. No Somatics - If you’re just talking without any somatic practices it only addresses the mind and not the body. You can actually be talking your way into deeper into a problem saturated story which is counter productive. Healing isn’t just a conversation, it lives in your body too. Talk therapy helps us make sense of our stories. Somatic therapy helps us feel and release what words alone can’t reach. Often with clients I’ll start with talk therapy and understand how they story and make sense of their experience, and then we’ll go into the body and have another conversation with the different layers of body, emotion and memory. Talk therapy gives trauma a voice, while somatic therapy gives the body permission to feel and let go. . . . #somatictherapy #talktherapy #somatichealing #narrativetherapy

Returning back to nature. To our essence. Again and again and again. Your nervous system remembers what your mind has forgotten - that you ARE nature. And for all the eye-rollers out there - science actually backs this up. Just 20 minutes in a natural environment measurably lowers cortisol, your body’s main stress hormone. That’s ecosomatics, baby. That’s your vagus nerve exhaling. That’s your biology finally getting the signals it’s been waiting for... the rustle of leaves, moving water, open sky and FRESH AIR... These aren’t just nice things, they are ancient cues of safety that your nervous system has literally been starving for. We didn’t evolve in offices. We didn’t evolve on screens, and some part of you already knows that. You feel it every time you spend time in nature right? Something in your chest just... loosens. Ecosomatics is just giving that feeling a framework. And honestly? It’s some of the most profound medicine in my own life. Maybe this is your invitation to get your feet on the earth and go hug a tree - for F sake. XX . . . #somatictherapy #somatictherapist #ecosomatics #naturetherapy

Clients and friends often apologize for what they’ve shared… for their story or their emotional world being too heavy. This breaks my heart. I wish there were more spaces to share the most tender parts of us ❤️‍🩹 . . . #therapy #somatictherapy #mentalhealth #safespaces #lovingkindness

Women: What if the way we talk about men is part of why we don’t feel safe with them? I’m seeing a trend I can’t ignore. Women I respect…Leaders. Educators. Voices with influence…ridiculing men.Mocking masculinity.Calling out “toxic men” while taking subtle (and not so subtle) digs at the healed ones too. And I get it - there is real hurt. Real harm. Real history here. But at some point we have to ask, are we processing pain… or performing superiority? Because if you’re longing for a grounded, emotionally available, conscious man… shaming men (collectively) isn’t it. This is NOT about excusing harmful behaviour.Call it out. Name it. Have boundaries. But this “men vs women” narrative? It’s tired. It’s divisive. And it keeps all of us stuck in the same loop. Patriarchy didn’t just wound women. It shaped men too. So if we’re serious about healing…let’s look at the ways we perpetuate the divide. And yes - that includes being willing to laugh at, unpack, and take responsibility for toxic traits in women too. Otherwise it’s not humour. It’s just socially acceptable shaming. And that’s not the world I want to build. What does a truly healed dynamic between men and women look like to you?Let’s have a real conversation ⬇️ . . . #healingthegenderdivide #menvswomen #collectivehealing

Amongst all the pretty floaty flow dances…. Sometimes a good ugly flail is the medicine. The work of Somatics isn’t meant to be “beautiful” or even palatable. Sometimes (most times), it’s messy, raw and looks downright SILLY. 🤪 Often with clients it takes a while to feel secure enough in the therapeutic relationship to be seen and guided into unfamiliar territory that can be uncomfortable. . . . #somatictherapy #somatictherapist #somatic

In a fast-paced world - slowing down can feel scary. It’s a practice I need to do with myself often. Because the hard truth is that if you’re resting or slowing down physically yet your mind is still pacing and thinking about all the things you need to do or worrying that you’re not being productive - you’re not actually getting the medicine that comes with being present enough to feel what’s arising in your body. . . . #somatichealing #somatictherapy #therapytips #somaticmovement #wellnesstips

The first Lula event was everything we ever dreamed it would be! The launch of Lula really embodied the vision we have for Lula long term. Women sharing their wisdom and learning from each other, coming together in community, understanding we're not alone, and that we can have fun while doing it! Thank you sooo much to the women who turned up on the night, and to the many people who supported from afar in spirit! Asks & offerings: - As we build the AI app, please sign up to the newsletter — we'll start offering openings for people to use it and help shape the app based on what you want and need. - Come along to our monthly events that showcase the many different women's health offerings available in our community. - If you have an event that supports women's health, we would love to share it. Lula can also be a place where women come to find women-focused events. - Lastly, we really want to support the growth of women's health in Aotearoa New Zealand - so if you have any ideas or partnerships we can activate, please get in touch! Hugest thanks to the women at the event who helped make it happen: @innerwisdom.health Willoughby @rebecca_bee_gunson @robbienofear @tessybrady7 @tarikura_ @freyamckernan @gracelily___ @sallygreer.studio @____eastwest and @moodiblends Morgan took the most amazing photos that really captured the essence of the evening - thank you xx @cleveryou

Do you need a practice that is “softening” right now, or “Re-wilding” Even if you’re not planning on joining the dance, I’d love to know what you feel the humans are needing right now… #somaticdance #onlinesomaticdance #onlinedance #somaticmovement #somatictherapy
