In January 2008 I flew to East Africa to spend six weeks with my dad. I ended up staying five months.
He’d set up a non-profit to build a home for orphaned kids and disadvantaged women. That’s where I picked up tools for the first time — no machines, no shortcuts, just hands-on carpentry and a clear purpose. That’s where I fell in love with building. But more importantly, it’s where I saw what building could mean — how it could change people’s lives.
On this day 17 years ago, my dad was shot and killed.
I was just a kid. And I had to grow up fast.
Me and two of my uncles, our cousin and my brother flew back to Africa to finish what he started. We stayed until Christmas and completed a 50-metre-long home that went on to win a world architecture award.
That project changed everything for me. It lit a fire I’ve never let burn out.
In 2012, I started Stratti Building Group. No big plan. No money behind it. Just a mission to build with purpose.
Today we’re a team of 22, delivering architectural homes and boutique projects across Sydney. Along the way, we’ve been recognised by the industry:
