Delighted that Rob Mesure, having been fitted for his branded workwear and given his vintage Penguin paperback reading list, is joining The Delavey from this Friday’s gig at The Waiting Room. Where he’ll be alternating / duelling guitars and bass guitars with Alexander. The Delavey: is it a fading art deco hotel, a dashing 1920s motor racing team, or a lyrical art pop band? Come find out at …But Is It Art? [there’s another question] this Friday, 30th January, at The Waiting Room (underneath The Three Crowns), Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16. Doors at 7pm, we’re on c7.30pm. Followed by live sets from the wonderful Spirits of Saturn and Parentheses Dot Dot Dot and an equally wonderful DJ set from Simon Drowner. Ticket link in our bio.link ____ Photograph of Tne Delavey taken by actor, writer, front man of The Prods, Jerome Wright. Jerome also features as one of the creative voices we approached to retell our track, The Fall, last year. Check our wall for the video of his interpretation of The Fall and see our bio.link for more info on his acting creds ——— Music: ‘Justice Walk’ by The Delavey, from the album, Storied, available now on all platforms. Realised it’s been a very long time since anything went on ‘the grid’ here, so thought a record of a couple of nights in the company of the mighty Stereolab should be worthy enough. Terrible photos, mind, but it’s the thought that counts.

More 2024* highlights, but this time it’s films: Perfect Days - because I can’t stop thinking about it The Holdovers - this definitely needs to go into the Xmas film rotation The Zone of Interest - can’t envisage watching this again any time soon, but it’s a staggering achievement A Different Man - about halfway through, I realised that I didn’t even know what genre this was in, and I’m still not sure I do (compliment) Conclave - gloriously catty Love Lies Bleeding - the year’s finest queer bodybuilding body horror magical realist revenge saga All of Us Strangers - can’t wait to feel strong enough to see this again Pavements - how not to make a ‘rock doc’ (compliment) Joker: Folie à Deux - nobody was more surprised than I, particularly as I kind of hated the first film The Substance - for all its flaws, I couldn’t leave this one out * Yeah, I know some of these are 2023 films, but I’m going, by and large, by UK release date.

2024, then. Largely terrible and blighted by grief and pain, but there have been some high points. Thankfully, there’s music, and here are - in a vague sort of order - some of my very favourite albums: Charli XCX - brat Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future Amelia Coburn - Between the Moon and the Milkman Jessica Pratt - Here in the Pitch Hurray for the Riff Raff - The Past is Still Alive Sierra Ferrell - Trail of Flowers Sabrina Carpenter - Short n’ Sweet Cassandra Jenkins - My Light, My Destroyer High Llamas - Hey Panda Tyler, the Creator - Chromakopia Kim Deal - Nobody Loves You More Fievel is Glauque - Rong Weicknes Waxahatchee - Tigers Blood Bill Ryder-Jones - Iechyd Da The Lemon Twigs - A Dream is All We Know Shellac - To All Trains Pet Shop Boys - nonetheless MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks

Went to @jonnytrunk ’s Groovy Fayre at @themildmayclub . The original(!) Stereolab T-shirts turned out to be a little rich for my blood, but I managed to turn some recent eBay earnings into some records. #vinyl
