Embarking on a 7-year journey with No Prep Kings has been a remarkable learning experience. It all began at PRI when I met James Goad, sparking a wild adventure. Initially, as the new guy, I observed individuals tirelessly working on opponents' cars during street racing events.
Transitioning to No Prep races marked a new chapter. James introduced me to his camp, and over time, I explored others, immersing myself in learning about the cars and the passionate men and women who race them. Each year brought encounters with more racers, tuners, crew members, and the incredible individuals essential for these racing machines. Their unwavering passion for supporting each other in racing is genuinely remarkable.
Acts of generosity, like Robin Roberts disassembling an engine for Larry Larson or Ryan providing a pro charger to a fellow racer, reinforced the camaraderie among them. James dismantled his car to assist someone with a part replacement, and Jeff Lutz consistently welding components epitomized their dedication to the sport.
Racers dedicate weeks to work, then fly to races, spending time driving, working on cars, and supporting their teams for fans' enjoyment. I spoke to a father who drives the rig with his daughter, flies home to work during the week, and returns the following weekendâa testament to his love for the sport and his daughter. Husband-and-wife teams expose their children to a lifestyle many envy.
Despite being an outsider initially, they embraced me. It took time to establish connections, but as a familiar face at races, I became a constant presence they couldn't shake offâproof that genuine bonds transcend being an outsider.
