What's one way that someone can make you feel included? Share your experience like Kirsty’s below. 👇 "For my birthday, I went to a restaurant where the staff showed excellent deaf awareness. They offered me a choice of different tables to ensure I was seated somewhere that worked for me with good lighting to make lipreading easier and turned the music down so I could follow conversations with my family. Their thoughtful actions made me feel included, safe and valued. It was simple changes that made a big difference.”

Thank you to everyone who supported our BBC Radio 4 Appeal. 💚 Your generosity helps us to provide support that changes someone’s life and helps them reconnect with the people around them. You can still listen back or watch the appeal in British Sign Language (BSL), and give directly to us if you wish to show support. Your gift today will help transform another person’s life.

What a fab day supporting @rnid_uk with Living With Hearing Loss (LWHL) for the “It Does Matter” campaign during #DeafAwarenessWeek at Kings Cross St Pancras 💚 Research found that many people worry about saying or doing the wrong thing when communicating with someone who is deaf or hard of hearing, but the reality is most people do want to communicate better, they just need the confidence and awareness to try. “It doesn’t matter” is something so many deaf and hard of hearing people hear regularly when we miss part of a conversation… but actually, it does matter. Being included matters. Understanding matters. Connection matters. The beautiful thing is that small changes can make a huge difference: • Gaining someone’s attention before speaking • Facing someone so they can see your lip pattern • Speaking clearly and naturally • Learning some simple BSL phrase 🤟 Communication barriers can be broken down so much more easily when people are willing to learn and try. Bravo 👏🏼 to RNID for continuing to raise awareness and encourage more inclusive communication 👏🩷 #RNID #ItDoesMatter #DeafAwareness #HearingLoss BSL Inclusion BreakingBarriers LivingWithHearingLoss

Being deaf in a world made for hearing people can feel like being in an invisible box. With a few simple changes, we can include everyone. 💚 At St. Pancras International, we took that invisible barrier and made it impossible to ignore. By stepping inside the box, people experienced how everyday communication can become frustrating, exhausting or impossible - and how small actions can make a huge difference. Thank you to everyone who got involved this Deaf Awareness Week and helped to show the world why #ItDoesMatter.

Me and Reece tried the #LipReadThis challenge! 😃🎧 It really opened our eyes to how important clear communication is for deaf people and people with hearing loss 💛 As it’s Deaf Awareness Week, it’s a reminder that small changes can make such a big difference 🫶 Face people when speaking, don’t cover your mouth and have a little patience, it really does matter 💛 📸 @videoeditorjack #itdoesmatter #deafawarenessweek #LipReadThis #lipreadingchallenge @rnid_uk

Being deaf in a world made for hearing people can feel like being in an invisible box 🦻 For Deaf Awareness Week, we partnered with @rnid_uk to bring communication barriers to life through a transparent box in the middle of St. Pancras International, showing how quickly everyday interactions can become challenging when methods aren’t accessible. TV personality and disability activist @tashaghouri shared, “I want people to take away the everyday struggles that deaf people go through in a hearing world.” Through RNID’s ‘It does matter’ campaign, visitors learned simple communication tips and basic British Sign Language (BSL) phrases, showing how small changes can help create more confident, connected conversations 💙 #DeafAwarenessWeek #ItDoesMatter

What’s going on at @stpancrasinternational ? 👀 Still time to catch @rnid_uk ’s pop-up at the station today for Deaf Awareness Week and learn some useful info about how you can facilitate more deaf-friendly conversations. And for more on the new data out today, head over to LiamODell.com. [Video description: Text at the start reads: ‘Warning: Flashing lights’ and ‘RNID marks Deaf Awareness Week with St Pancras pop-up’. The camera pans from a green box with a clock on it saying ‘be patient’ to show a young white man signing in a see-through box in the middle of the St Pancras station concourse. It then cuts to a shot of a desk with ‘RNID: Supporting people who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus’. Text overlay reads: ‘The charity’s stunt sees people stand inside a transparent box, highlighting the “invisible communication barriers” faced by deaf people and those with hearing loss.’ It then cuts to the top of the desk showing a row of green bookmarks with communication tips on them. Text overlay reads: ‘It’s part of RNID’s ‘It does matter’ campaign, which shares communication tips and common BSL phrases.’ A white woman with wavy brown hair flowing down her left side, credited as Crystal Rolfe, director of strategy, RNID, then speaks to the camera. When she talks about the box, it pans right to show it. When she talks about the three tips, it cuts to a section of the display listing the tips. When she says ‘never say it doesn’t matter’, it cuts to a green box with these words on them. After this, it cuts to Liam entering the box and looking around. Text overlay reads: ‘It comes on the same day the charity released new data on attitudes towards deaf people.’ It then cuts back to Crystal talking until the end of the video.
