Saab. Bet you haven’t heard that name in a while! It’s been 10 years since Saab went defunct.
A mixture of strategic problems sent Saab to its deathbed, with the company unable to make profits. Ultimately, the rivals were offering a better product and the parent company (GM) weren’t doing anything about it! They put Saab right at the bottom of the priority list and ultimately underfunded them. It’s rare that we see mainstream manufacturers go bankrupt. So, when that fate came knocking on the door for Saab, it came across as a surprise, but it was also expected at the same time.
When @rng.classics threw me the keys to the 900 Turbo, I was reminded of what Saab once was. A pioneer in its class. Innovative. A car that brought turbocharged engines to be in mainstream automobiles. A car that didn’t spare safety. It was the thinking man’s car.
