Students jumped into their love-themed unit creating neon light heart backgrounds with paint markers and chalk, then added lava lamps with heart shaped hearts using oil pastels. We blended, smudged, and assembled—and the final reveal was everything! 😍✨

This Thursday, our amazing artists will be transforming into pastry chefs during art class as we celebrate the holiday season with our annual cookie decorating party! 🎨✨
I’ll be providing the sugar cookies and piping bags, but we still need your help! 🎁
👉 We’re looking for frosting, sprinkles, candy toppings, and 1–2 parent volunteers per class to make the magic happen.

Principal Appreciation Week: Art room edition! ✨🎨

To celebrate our amazing principal Mr. Shahbaz, our 6th grade artists spent two weeks transforming him into an icon! 😎🖼️

We explored different portrait styles and learned about proportion, distortion, and storytelling. After the Students sketched portraits that captured Mr.Shahbaz in the portrait style of their choice; they added detail in the background that expressed his interests.

Once the sketches were set, students kept the portraits black and white with added shading to show a strong light source. The backgrounds were brought to life with watercolor markers, and the final touch? Custom picture frames inspired by arabesque motifs. ✨🖌️

Congratulations to the founding members of the National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) at Richard Merkin Middle School! 🖌️💛
Out of over 30 talented applicants, these creative leaders were selected for their passion, dedication, and artistic excellence. We can’t wait to see how they’ll inspire our school and community through art!
Our first NJAHS meeting is tomorrow from 3:30–4:30 p.m. in the art room! 🌟
We’ll kick things off with community-builder activities, plan field trips, and start brainstorming exciting projects and school-wide art events!
