The main theme of Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 is ‘Action’ Taking action, both to support others and care for ourselves, is key to good mental health. The MHF identifies several things we can do to achieve good mental health, including consistent action which leads to regular habits, connecting with others, and living a healthy lifestyle. Volunteering is a powerful way to do this. It strengthens connections, encourages activity, can boost your mood and self-esteem as well as those of the people you help. So, whether it's volunteering to help a relative with their weekly shop, getting more involved in your local community initiatives, or giving your time to support a charity, remember that taking action to help others can also help us feel happier and healthier, too. For Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the positive impact water can have on our mental wellbeing. Time spent in, on, or around water, including swimming and lifesaving sport, can support both physical and emotional health, helping to reduce stress and improve mood. Whether you’re taking part in water sports or simply enjoying the water, these experiences can build confidence and give you space to reset. They can also foster a sense of community, encourage connection and help people feel less isolated. Taking time to stay active and support one another around water can contribute to a healthier, more positive mindset. Always use water safely and be aware of the dangers before you take a dip. For Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the emotional impact of rescue work. Lifeguards regularly face challenging and distressing situations in the line of duty, and supporting their mental health is just as important as their physical safety. That’s why our Lifeguard membership provides access to counselling should a lifeguard be involved in an incident and need support. Repeated exposure to high-stress environments can affect even the most resilient people. That’s why checking in, speaking up, and supporting one another matter, and why we’re committed to creating a culture where conversations about wellbeing are encouraged. We’re proud to work alongside our strategic partner, Papyrus, which provides vital support and resources for those struggling with their mental health. Papyrus offers confidential advice and support for young people experiencing thoughts of suicide, and for anyone worried about a young person, through HOPELINEUK. After recent rain, remember to empty and turn over garden water containers. Water butts, troughs, and barrels can be dangerous for young children; a risk that’s often overlooked. Children can drown in as little as 5cm (2 inches) of water - enough to cover a child’s mouth and nose. Small changes can save a life. 💙 Find more family garden water safety advice at: .uk/splash-safely-at-home #SplashSafely
