It's been a minute since I've shared one of my favorite Santa Barbara producers and her Seagrape label. Not for lack of enjoyment — just a lapse in giving them their due over the interwebs. My go-to wines, without question.
📷 PHOTOS 1/2/3: The Seagrape pinot noir, rated 94 points by Wine Enthusiast's Matt Kettmann, was my dinner pairing alongside duck leg confit, braised beluga lentils, roasted carrots, kale and mustard-scented duck jus. Splendid! [The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch Cal Poly Pomona, Tuesday, April 7, 2026]

📷 PHOTOS 4/5: One can't go wrong with the Seagrape rosé of pinot gris with Thai cuisine. The bright acidity and crisp, focused tropical notes of guava and lychee, layered with stone fruit and a kiss of red berry, make it a natural match for Thai curries and spice-driven flavors like lemongrass, kaffir lime, bird's eye chilies, cumin, basil, and more. 🏆 94 Wine Enthusiast (Seagrape Wine Company 'Jump Up' Pinot Noir 2022): A light hue in the glass, this snappy bottling leaps on the nose with pomegranate and raspberry aromas that are elevated by hints of bay leaf. The palate throws out of sour cherry and rosewater, with pepper and hibiscus flavors popping on the finish. — Matt Kettmann, Dec 1, 2024 issue
This week's cinematic wine theme continues with another installment in the Sabelli-Frisch franchise — a wine reflecting the same sense of craft and composition found behind the camera.
Far removed from the sweet white zinfandel that once dominated the category, this wine presents a more refined expression of the grape. Crafted from the old vines of Stampede Vineyard, it's a delicate, pale rosé with just a whisper of color, dry and aromatic with bright citrus character. Subtle red berries, grapefruit and gentle floral notes glide across the palate, where a crisp texture and slight salinity bring an intriguing dimension, all carried by the balance and confidence that only old vines can convey.
Delivering a spot-on, hand-in-glove pairing with the salmon belly crudo starter, the wine seemed destined for the dish: silky salmon belly, avocado, blood orange, fennel confit, crispy capers

Continuing this week's look at cinematic wines leading up to the Academy Awards, the next bottle comes from a winemaker whose career behind the camera is just as compelling as his work in the cellar.
Wow-factor box checked! Gorgeous ruby red. The wine shows depth and stature (meaning build, not status) reminiscent of Paso Robles syrah, but without the flab, weight or high ABV. An ambrosial red fruit bowl of pomegranate, vibrant raspberry and dark cherry (think Van or Stella cherries), interlaced with a touch of Mediterranean herbaceousness. The mouthfeel is smooth and elegant, with flavors that rest comfortably on the midpalate and linger long enough to invite the next taste. A complete joy to experience.
Ideal pairing with cast-iron roasted lamb picanha topped with Sicilian pistachio sauce, pomegranate reduction and herb pistou, with a side of roasted carrots resting on a bed of white Sonora wheat berries.

It was my pleasure to host @thecsu Trustee Guajardo and Trustee Arambula as they experienced the @calpolypomona difference firsthand. From the Lyle Center and Rose Float Lab to the Collins College kitchen and our athletics facilities, our Broncos demonstrated what it means to learn by doing — and become by doing.
Thank you for your leadership and partnership as we continue the search for CPP’s next president. We appreciate your commitment to our students, our mission and the bright future we’ve got ahead of us. Go Broncos! 🐎

Was taken on a tour of (some) of the amazing offerings on the property of @calpolypomona@thefarmstorecpp And blown away doesn’t describe the variety and quality. As a chef this is a dream come true. Hydroponic trailer, 300 variety’s of tomato, endless dragonfruit, hard to find herbs, you name it. Oh yeah and there is another 100 acres of farm right down the street too. 2026 is going to be amazing for The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch. #calpolypomona #chef #hospitality #culinary #local
