🌍✨ Team Day at Redruth with Leon Dundas: Embracing Sawubona Spirit! ✨🌿 Yesterday, our team embarked on an unforgettable journey with the amazing Leon Dundas in Redruth. 🏞️ It was a day filled with exploration, introspection, and meaningful conversations that left us with a profound sense of connection and purpose. As we delved into the heart of Sawubona, we discovered not only the beauty of this place but also the beauty of our collective spirit. 🤝❤️ We asked ourselves key questions that unlocked a flood of emotions, leading to an overwhelming sense of happiness, togetherness, and community. 🌱 Sawubona, a Zulu greeting, means "I see you." And yesterday, we truly saw each other, recognizing the unique talents and perspectives each team member brings to the table. We felt the power of unity and the importance of working together towards a common goal. 🌏 Through our work and the strength of our community, we are on a mission to combat climate change. 🌿🌍 Our shared vision is a greener, more sustainable world, and yesterday's experience reinforced our commitment to making a positive impact. Let's carry the Sawubona spirit forward, nurturing our team bonds and continuing our vital work in the fight against climate change. Together, we can create a brighter and more sustainable future for all! 💚🌟 #TeamDay #SawubonaSpirit #ClimateAction #TogetherWeCan #restorativepractice

"Ecocide" describes the serious harm happening to our planet – like the mass damage and destruction of the natural living world. Cornwall's known for its beauty and diverse ecosystems, but climate change and harmful actions, such as overfishing and farming, are hurting our environment here. At RJ Working, we're backing the Stop Ecocide campaign. It's about treating ecocide like a crime and making those who damage the environment take responsibility. We believe in young people's power to make good changes. So, we're excited to say we support bringing the Stop Ecocide campaign into Cornwall's schools. This can help Cornwall fight damage to the environment and climate. Students can learn how important it is to look after our planet's nature and see that they can make a difference as a school community. The #STOPECOCIDE movement, with the help of Cornwall's people, especially schools, could make the government take real action to protect our environment. Let's protect our planet and Cornwall's future. Get your school on board with #STOPECOCIDE and create a liveable planet for all.

Thank you Natalie Pramuk @unep for being an inspiring force in Cornish Ecosystem Restoration. We are grateful to see you shine internationally, thank you for including Shriya from RJ Working's East Cornwall team to the Europe & North America Regional Focus Group Discussion. Was incredibly pleased to see so many young people involved in the discussion to tackle nature loss, the biggest harm this generation will face. The restorative points from a societal perspective raised to the room by Shriya were that our current educational offerings need to produce minds that are ready to give back to nature as much as we take from it. Also reinforcing that we need youth consultation in local and national policy, particularly in matters related to healing ecosystems that will be inherited by this generation. Looking forward to working together, having collaborative conversations and continuing to include the youth voice in global decision making. #unitednations #internationalpolicy #ecosystemrestoration #restorative #collaboration #un

Did you know that Restorative Practice can be an effective approach for supporting identity based groups within schools? Bodmin College invited us to facilitate because 5 girls in Y9 (past participants in our Ripple Effect Programme) had the idea to set up a lunchtime girl's group. Lucy and Shriya supported their launch where they mapped topics that they were keen to explore. Including connection to nature, mental health and recognising misogyny. Restorative Practice will help them find common ground and be stronger together. If you would like to explore how your school could benefit from engaging with similar programmes please get in touch. Email [email protected] for more details. #restorative #cornwall #girls #school #club

This poster is the creation of Arianwen Oldridge who previously illustrated a poem which brings together several RJ Working priorities Now approaching the end of her Creative Arts Practice degree, Arianwen has generously shared this artwork reflecting her values and symbolising strength of character, we hope it speaks to young people and calls us all forward. #inspiration #art #creative #restorative #values

For the past six months, RJ Working and our Creative Community Practitioner Rob Mennear have had the pleasure of growing Open Circle, a group led by young adults (guidelines of 16yrs - 21yrs) at intoBodmin. It’s a space for young adults to share ideas, get creative and take positive action together. The group have already been busy! So far they have: – Launched The Pop Up, a changing space bringing fresh energy to Bodmin as part of the FLAMM International Art Festival. – Plan, record and edit their own podcast: (Intro episode: Intros + What does the Open Circle mean to you? - The Open Circle Bodcast | Podcast on Spotify Joy of Bodmin episode: What Part of Bodmin Brings You Joy? - The Open Circle Bodcast | Podcast on Spotify) – Led the public in creating a bright, colourful mural and up-cycled inspiring community furniture. – Started collaboration with a professional artist to design bespoke posters for Bodmin. – Hold regular conversations with Francesco Rigolli, Experience Project Coordinator at Cornwall Council. The group meets once a month at intoBodmin. Sessions are relaxed, open and led by the group. It’s a friendly, welcoming space where everyone’s voice matters. There’s lots of fantastic work happening across Bodmin and Cornwall that supports young people to lead and be heard and this is part of that growing energy. Got something to say? Come and be part of it. What to expect: The group meets once a month on a Wednesday, 4:00–5:30pm, at intoBodmin (The Old Library). Each session starts with a warm welcome, usually with a drink and a biscuit. We sit together in a circle, where everyone is invited (if they’d like) to introduce themselves and share their thoughts on a simple question to get things started. From there, the session follows the ideas and plans agreed at the previous session, while staying open and responsive to what comes up in the room. We spend time exploring, creating and discussing any projects/ideas together and begin shaping the focus for the next session.

@uniofexeteresi @uniofexeter Institute hosted our team member Shriya at their residential programme entitled "Innovation and Leadership for the Renewable Sector" at @theheadlandcornwall Gaining insight from academics who are at the forefront of this field and networking with leaders in the renewable sector was highly valuable for her work. At RJ Working, we envision a future that is ready to face the harm of the climate crisis. Being strongly embedded within the community of leaders facing this locally is important. We intend on nurturing the next generation of Green Industry leaders through our work.

The Cornwall Association of Primary Headteachers Conference was an inspiring place to learn and share. RJ Working had the privilege of having our Restorative Development Lead in Schools and Communities, Becky Ndegwa represent the organisation by including the restorative model in conversations with the headteachers present. The theme was belonging and inclusion, and discussions delved into understanding the difference between belonging vs mattering. #restorative #climateaction #conference #community #schools #cornwall #primary #youngpeople #students #harm #reduction #strength #conversation #presentation #southwest #uk #GB #education #education
