Students, families, coaches, volunteers, and community members gathered for the Girls on the Run Inland Empire 5K at Martin Luther King High School on May 9. 👟 The event celebrated the growth, friendships, and life skills participants developed throughout the Girls on the Run program.

Students at George Washington Elementary School took the stage for a vibrant morning of International Dance Performances, celebrating culture, creativity, and community through music and movement. 🌎💃
Students from the school’s Dual Language Immersion and traditional classroom programs showcased dances representing cultures and traditions from around the world, highlighting the collaboration, hard work, and school spirit that made the event possible.
Events like these help foster connection, cultural appreciation, and meaningful learning experiences for students across Riverside Unified.
Los estudiantes de la Escuela Primaria George Washington subieron al escenario para ofrecer una animada mañana de actuaciones de danza internacional, en la que celebraron la cultura, la creatividad y el sentido de comunidad a través de la música y el movimiento. 🌎💃

Congratulations to Martin Luther King High School junior Carleigh Rios on earning top honors in the ninth annual Palm Springs Young Playwrights Festival! 🎭
Rios was selected as one of four Riverside County winners for her original one-act play, “Mermaid Story,” earning a $500 scholarship and the opportunity to have her work performed as a staged reading by professional actors and directors at the Palm Springs Cultural Center on June 7.

Congratulations to all 15 Riverside Unified students who were honored as some of the City of Riverside’s 25 Most Remarkable Teens for 2026. The students were recognized during the Riverside City Council meeting on May 12.
Students were selected for their achievements in academics, athletics, arts and culture, leadership, community involvement, and overcoming challenges while making a positive impact in their schools and community.

Riverside Unified celebrated Ramona High School’s first graduating cohort of Dual Language Immersion (DLI) students on May 11. 🎓🌎
Congratulations to Ramona’s graduating DLI students, their families, and the educators who helped make this milestone possible.
RUSD’s DLI program helps students develop bilingualism and biliteracy, high academic achievement in both languages, and sociocultural competence. Since launching, the program has expanded to six elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools across the district.

Through MLK's Wellness Peer Educators Club, students are helping promote wellness, reduce stigma, and create a culture of compassion, connection, and support on campus.

We are deeply honored and humbled to share that Casa Blanca Elementary School has received multiple distinguished recognitions celebrating excellence in educational design, innovation, and community impact.
Casa Blanca Elementary School was awarded the prestigious Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) Southwest Region Monarch Award, one of the highest honors in educational facility design, recognizing projects that meaningfully enhance the student learning experience through innovation, sustainability, and visionary planning.
Earlier this year, the project also received the A4LE Southern California New Construction Merit Award and was further recognized with an Outstanding Project Award in Learning By Design Magazine Spring 2026 Educational Facilities edition.
While we are deeply grateful for these recognitions, the true impact of this project is best reflected in the words shared by Principal Mr. Bernardo “Bernie” Torres: “Every day I have the pleasure of seeing our students benefit from this beautiful and innovative campus that you all designed! You have all taught me that the architectural design of a campus plays a factor in cultivating and dictating a student-centered learning environment.”
This campus was designed to be more than a school, it was envisioned as a place of resilience, opportunity, and community pride where students feel inspired, supported, and empowered every day. Casa Blanca Elementary School was recognized for its thoughtful integration of modern learning environments, responsiveness to the surrounding community, and creation of flexible, student-centered spaces that support educational innovation and long-term student success.
These achievements reflect the incredible collaboration, dedication, and shared vision of the District, Riverside Unified School District, its Superintendent, Board of Education, leadership team, design team, consultants, construction and project partners, and community members who helped bring this project to life. We are deeply grateful to everyone involved in creating a lasting legacy for the students and families of Casa Blanca Elementary School.
