The Mountains We Carry. 🏔️ In Afghanistan, mountains weren’t just scenery they were obstacles. I remember walking four hours through deep snow just to reach a classroom. In my home, education isn’t something you simply attend; it’s something you fight for. Today, millions of Afghan girls are still denied that basic right. But I’ve learned that the hardest mountains aren’t made of rock and ice. They are the ones we carry inside us. After arriving in Australia as refugees, my family started from zero. We faced new languages, a new culture, and the invisible scars of our past. Then, I lost my 20-year-old brother. We shared a dream: to climb Mount Everest. Now, I carry that dream for both of us. I climb for: 🤍 My brother. 🌏 Refugees rebuilding their lives. 🧠 Those struggling with mental health. 📚 Every girl in Afghanistan fighting for an education. My Everest journey has officially begun. 📍 March 16 – My next summit 📍 April – Everest Base Camp trek To carry this message of resilience to the highest point on Earth, I am raising $80,000 for this expedition. Every contribution is a step toward the summit, a step toward honoring a life lost too soon, and a step toward hope. If this story speaks to you, please support and share. Together, we can climb this mountain. 🕊️ [Link in Bio to Support] #EverestJourney #MentalHealthAwareness #RefugeeStory #Afghanistan RightToEducation ForMyBrother ClimbForChange

This just might be one of the most 🤯 stories I have heard of survival. @riverbeyondsummits used her own period blood to cover herself & play dead to survive a Taliban attack & now she’s going for the summit of Mt Everest to raise awareness for Afghan women and girls rights. She’s alive due to sheer grit and quick thinking. When she graduated high school she begged and begged her father to let her go to Kabul for university. She sobbed for two weeks until he finally relented and gave her a bit of money. She was the only female on the bus. Halfway to Kabul the bus was stopped by the Taliban who opened fire. River was on her period. She smeared her blood all over her face and pretended she had been killed. She could hear the Taliban gunmen talking about her, how they had killed a “prostitute”. She studied journalism and then got a masters in international relations. She left Afghanistan in 2019 for Australia. She goes by River now because as she told me “My philosophy behind river is to flow like a river, non stop able” Also she says after starting a new life & the death of her brother she felt as of her old name, Zakia (which means river) carried too much trauma. Check out her instagram page & links to support & do drop her a comment! River doesn’t just want to make history as the first Afghan woman to summit Everest, she wants people to remember that Afghan women are powerful & can rise to the highest peaks as long as the world doesn’t continue to abandon them.

From Escaping the Taliban to Climbing Mt. Everest River Ahmad survived war and persecution in Afghanistan because of her advocacy for women’s rights. After escaping to Australia as a refugee, she has decided to attempt to become the first Afghani woman to climb Mount Everest. This is one of the most powerful stories to emerge from Everest Base Camp this season. We were so deeply moved by River’s story of survival and resilience and how Everest can be a place for hope. “If I can climb Everest, women can do anything.” Watch the full film on Everest Live YouTube/link in bio. #everestlive #everest2026 #kailas #kailasclimb #kailasnepal #madetoclimb

I came to Kathmandu preparing for one of the biggest moments of my life — my summit push. But today I’m facing another challenge: expensive climbing gear that isn’t performing the way it should. It’s heartbreaking when you invest everything into a dream and the equipment you trusted lets you down. Time is running short, but I’m doing my best to stay strong and adapt. #EverestExpedition #ClimbForACause #MentalStrength #Mountaineer #EverestJourney WomenInAdventure
