Today is National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid so potent that even a tiny amount can be fatal, and education is one of the most powerful tools we have. The County of Riverside and the Riverside County Office of Education came together to launch California’s first comprehensive, State-standards aligned fentanyl education curriculum in 2025, ahead of the state’s 2026-27 mandate. It’s free and open to educators, parents, student leaders, and community groups - because this work belongs to all of us. CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department is proud to acknowledge the beginning of Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters Week, which is a time dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to standing in unity with their families and departments across the nation. On Sunday evening, as the sun set over Downtown Riverside, the County Administration Center was illuminated in red in recognition of this meaningful week. With its view along the 91 freeway, the tribute serves as a powerful reminder to our community and all who pass by of the courage and sacrifice of our fallen firefighters. We extend our sincere thanks to Riverside County for joining us in this nationwide show of respect.
