While recovering from surgery I decided to finish off the children’s picture book I’ve been working on. How to Find a Monster is now available on Amazon worldwide. I can’t add the link here but if you search for the title you’ll find it. It’s a lighthearted kids book that gently tackles themes of friendship, loneliness and feeling different. And of course massive thanks to the wonderful @remy_makeup for being the best to work with and @josscarter.yourworstnightmare for bringing our creation to life! This was a tight turnaround (about two weeks) while juggling other jobs and no time for makeup tests but we put together something sparkly and different and had a blast doing it! We ran into all sorts of hiccups and things had to be adapted on the fly but hopefully it was a fun demo to watch and I’m proud of what we achieved 😁 the pieces were all silicone and consisted of a cowl, face, chin and ears. The horns were polystyrene coated in latex. Throwback to 2022 of a massive piece I sculpted and ran for Duchess (a Neil Marshall movie designed by @upmake ). It was pretty much covering the actor’s whole abdomen. I need to track the film down to see how it turned out. Always fun working from real injury references but sometimes ones like this can be a bit hard to look at. Our Media Make-Up students had the fantastic opportunity to learn from James Olney, a highly skilled prosthetic makeup artist. With experience across prosthetics, sculpture, prop making, and workshop fabrication, James brought a lot of industry knowledge to the session.
He demonstrated how to create and apply Bondo prosthetic moulds, a staple on Film and TV sets for quick, high-quality prosthetic applications. Students gained invaluable hands-on experience and insight into professional set techniques used across the creative industries.
