A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Spring Fair on April 18 such a wonderful success. We are delighted to share that the total income raised was just over £18,000. These funds will support the cathedral’s mission to serve the people and communities of North Yorkshire and the Diocese of Leeds, as well as its education programme, music, and heritage conservation. From the wonderful choirs, volunteers and staff, to the fantastic stall holders, your time, talent and support made the day truly special. We are also incredibly grateful for the generous support of Sainsbury’s for café donations, Thomas the Baker for the bread buns, Morrisons for the hot chocolate, Valentino’s Ristorante for the pork, Ripon Community Link for the cakes. Another thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes and to all who came along to support the day. Ripon Cathedral are holding a prayer vigil today to pray for The Crown Nomination Commission who are meeting today to discern the next Bishop of Leeds. The Crown Nomination Commission is responsible for identifying and recommending candidates for the role of diocesan bishop. It includes six diocesan representatives, six members from General Synod, the Archbishops or their representatives, and the two appointments secretaries. God our loving Father, You pour out upon your people the Spirit of your love, as we seek your will and follow it. Be with those whose charge it is to discern the new bishop of this diocese. Empower them to know your will, set aside their own wants and wishes, and seek that which is good for all your people in this place. For we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sunday was a day of celebration which saw the installation of the new Mayor of Ripon, Cllr Andrew Williams. Cllr Williams was placed in the stall assigned to the mayor in the cathedral's Medieval quire by Dean John, as we asked for God's blessing on our council and the city. We were delighted that members of @21engr joined us for this civic service, having exercised their Freedom of the City - a long-standing tradition which saw the soldiers march through the Market Square with bayonets fixed and standards flying, accompanied by the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers. The service was attended by the Richard Compton, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, representing His Majesty The King. #ripon #installationofmayor #riponcathedral

Join us on tomorrow, Thursday May 14 at 5.30pm for our Ascension Day Festal Eucharist - when we celebrate Christ leaving his disciples after 40 days, with the promise that he would send the Holy Spirit to them. The service in the stunning setting of our quire, will be sung by the boy choristers and lay clerks of Ripon Cathedral Choir. Reflective Stained Glass Walk - one week to go! Step into story, memory, and reflection through the cathedral’s remarkable memorial stained glass windows with Executive Coach and Education volunteer, Geoff Ashton. This 45-minute interactive reflective walk invites you to uncover the lives and stories held within the glass - and to consider what they might still say to us today. Previous participants shared reflections including: 💭 “I was thinking about my calling. I think my calling is to have more faith, hope and love.” 💭 “When you asked to think about a question we might be mulling over, I realised I didn’t have anything that was bothering or disturbing me.
