One of the most unforgettable and defining moments of my career was meeting and photographing @oprah ! Capturing those photos wasn’t just an honor—it was the reassurance I needed at that moment in my journey. I remember thinking, “I’m really built for this!” Not long before, I had made the bold decision to resign from my management role at Southwest Airlines to chase my passion full-time. I didn’t have everything figured out, but I believed in my gift, my talent, and most importantly, myself. I knew that if I wanted to create the life I envisioned, I had to take that leap. Fast forward a few months into my entrepreneurial journey, and I got the call to photograph a Weight Watchers event with Oprah. That opportunity changed everything. Three years of blood, sweat, tears, late nights, earlier mornings, hour-long one way commutes, prayers, doubt, discipline, determination, success, praise, and accomplishments have all led to this moment. A moment I have dreamed about since I was a 13-year-old girl. I am officially a lawyer. To my daughter, Ryan Nicole, thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your love. You have spent less time with me over these last three years than either of us ever imagined, but you never stopped cheering for me. Every sacrifice was made with you in mind. This was always about building something better for us. To my family and friends, thank you for carrying me, encouraging me, praying for me, supporting me, and believing in me even when I did not believe in myself. I quit law school almost every day during 1L fall, but none of you ever let me quit longer than that day. To my lawyer besties especially, thank you for your guidance, your honesty, your encouragement, and for helping me survive the moments that felt impossible. And to my mom, thank you to my mom. Although you are not physically here to watch me walk across the stage today, I know you are with me spiritually. I carry you in my heart and soul every single day. Thank you for holding down my household and standing in the gap while I pursued this dream. Our dream. 42.🎉 Life has a way of teaching you what matters sometimes gently, sometimes not. I’ve learned that your dreams won’t wait on you, and time doesn’t slow down just because you’re not ready. At some point, you realize no one is coming to pour into you the way you can pour into yourself, so you learn to fill your own cup first. You understand that healing isn’t optional, it’s necessary, especially before you go searching for love in others. Along the way, consistency becomes your anchor, and you learn that giving up was never really an option. I’ve also learned that my journey was never meant to look like anyone else’s. Comparison will distract you if you let it, so I’ve chosen to stay focused and run my own race, at my own pace. And through it all, I’ve come to understand the importance of building a relationship with God because some strength, some clarity, and some peace can only come from Him. 42 and still learning, still growing, and still becoming everything I’m meant to be.
