2024 ripped my heart open in so many ways — not least watching a genocide unfold before our very eyes as the suits and governments lied and deflected and lined their pockets(and hearts) with war and cruelty. It was also, however, a year of tremendous friendship — deepening old ones, nurturing beautiful new ones. It was a year of much travel — which I looove! A year of making music — challenging myself to create in new forms and reach ever new shapes of doing what I love doing. Not to mention the real joy of seeing how my music has travelled and reached new ears all over the world! It was a year of education and community — development and planning ahead. A year of worry, disappointment, experiencing painful bigotry and discrimination from those who preach love. A year of family — chosen and blood! In short — it was a hell of a year! Shoh! 4years already — & what a tremendous ride it’s been! Making this album from veins to vinyl has catapulted me into so much joy and helped me achieve things I could barely hope for as a teenager — trying out new songs at open mic nights in Harare! But it’s also been about confronting an industry that I’m still not really sure how to be a part of without some measure of self-destruction & sadness. My forever ‘on again off again’ valentine! ‘In A Galaxy’ was a huge exercise in drowning out the noise and trusting my instincts. I fell in love with making music again — it was fun again — (until it wasn’t.) But fuck it — I’m so proud of this album — even though it feels like a hundred songs ago — I’m proud of the joy it helped me capture — the beautiful people and experiences it brought me along the way — and hearing from sooo many of you out there all over the world — how you connect with it —just absolutely fills my heart!
