Day 19
51 + 1 day proof of life pic with state u lighting + thunderstorm hair! Spent the day in the basement with takeout empanadas + the traditional carvel cake (you can take the girl out of Queens…) because I got biblical hail + 🌪️ tornadoes for my birthday! Shout out to fellow ♈️—as of today we’ve got a rare stellium with seven celestial bodies in Aires which means I have no idea what, + we’re expecting more crazy-ass storms tonight, so mostly hoping for meteorological grace + being able to drive to the east side to see @ratboysband tonight + a new world order? 🎈
I run a Jewish Arts Project at UW-Madison, & this year I’ve gotten a crash course in concert production—I’m delighted to be bringing @laura_elkeslassy & her band to Madison next week with @meadwitterschoolofmusic (in conjunction with MENA heritage month) for a free concert on March 19th in Collins Recital Hall, where Laura will be performing songs by Line Monty, Zohra Elfassia, Habiba Msika, Maurice El Medioni, Shlomo Abitbol, and Salim Halali. A retro-futurist musical experience, Ya Ghorbati: Divas in Exile summons the Arab Jewish cultures of a lost millennial world, offering a living testimony of what once was and of what could be. Madison friends: please spread the word! (And shout out to @mandelinstitute where Laura & I met as part of their inaugural cultural leadership fellowship program!)
#awp2026 in summation: grateful for 20+ years of embodied community, bookfair hugs, impromptu meals, all the friends i forgot to photograph, all the pple i finally got to meet in person, sweaty readings w/ bad acoustics, late-nite bar convos, thoughtful panels, piles of books in my suitcase, + art as antidote to at least some of the horrors ❤️ 📚
