This Saturday at 5:00 PM opening reception for Twilight of the Guardians: Art in the Age of Moral Collapse. Manuel Ocampo Marc Chiat Rigo 23 Deep into a conversation started in late 80's California it is a joy to be showing work with these two artists. Perspectives honed from our ditch of origin, but cultivated over time in an understanding of Global Familial ties, in that sense that Astronauts, Cosmonauts, Taikonauts and Zapatistas all talk about. This will be a 9 day DIY "pop-up" exhibition and we would love to welcome you to 2860 Glenview Avenue, LA, CA 90039. All empires come to pass...

One week and fifty nine years ago, Martin Luther King said: "A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death". Regardless of where we might place the moment that threshold was passed, it is beyond reasonable doubt that a spiritual corpse currently represents the nation on the global human "stage". What kind of art to make from within such a moment? Such a nation? Surely there are as many answers as there are artists. Manuel Ocampo, Marc Chiat and myself decide to mount an art exhibit addressing this excruciating cultural contemporaneity. It is titled Twilight of the Guardians: Art In The Age of Moral Collapse and it will open next Saturday, April 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at 2860 Glenview Avenue in Los Angeles, CA 9039 (Elysian Valley) and it will run through April 26 If you might have a chance, we would love to see you. The exhibition received no institutional support of any kind, nor did it receive any institutional neutering of any kind. It is a DIY effort and we thank all of our family and friends who lent a hand.

Twilight of the Guardians:  Art in the Age of Moral Collapse Manuel Ocampo     Marc Chiat Rigo 23   Twilight of the Guardians: Art in the Age of Moral Collapse brings together the work  of three artists who yield painting, drawing and graphic provocations to create timely  landscapes and portraits of a global order in vertigo. True to the DYI ethos which brought them together in late 1980's California, the artists  (from the Philippines, USA and Portugal) join their voices in this moment of global  crisis, to speak from an unfettered platform - the artist's studio. April 18 - April  26, 2026 2860 Glenview Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90039

When creating the design for the Beverly Hills Metro station, @rigo23studio wanted to give something back to the workers who keep the city running. In this clip from his visit to our workshop, he explains why incentivizing public transit and honoring the working class is at the heart of this piece. We are currently bringing this meaningful mosaic to life.

This Friday - February 27 - at 1:00 PM I will be sharing images, stories, intentions and aches @calarts in room A207. The talk is open to the public and is part of the Aesthetics and Politics Speaker Series. Thank you Janet Sarbanes for this opportunity to engage in dialogue with your students and the wider community. I was particularly moved to hear that the talk with Albert Woodfox and Robert King - of the Angola 3 - at the now defunct Main Museum in 2017, stayed with you this long and was the seed leading to this invitation. As Robert King often says: You throw pebbles in a pond you get ripples The ripples can become waves And sometimes a wave can become a tsunami - - - - - By the thousands By the millions We are all Palestinians - - - - - 1 - Victory Stand, San Jose State Umiversity 2 - Terra Nullius - 2025, detail, @ybca 3 - Autonomous Intergalactic Space Program @zdb8marvila 4 - Anne Begay,@begayanne and Kathy Peltier, @wazi_kat with the Peltier Statue @santa_cruz_barrios_unidos 5 - Maya embroiderer collaborator (anonymity requested) @zdb8marvila 6 - Dr. José Cuellar (Rest In Power), @itsdrloco and Diego Irizarry

This weekend is the last chance to see "Terra Nullius - 2025" my contribution to Bay Area Then @ybca a group exhibition curated by @eungiej00 If you may be in the Bay Area this weekend I encourage you to go experience it. I have been using ITG less and have been missing this channel of communication but given the acceleration of these platforms participation in the fascist assault on our lives, I look forward to soon transitioning to using other platforms via which to stay in contact.

❄️☢️ Nuclear Winter is coming to San Francisco ☢️❄️ From Jan 2 - 8, take shelter in The Little Roxie. ------ We are thrilled to announce that Once Upon a Time in the Apocalypse, a dystopian independent short directed by @tiagojpimentel and starring celebrated singer-songwriter - and voice of a Revolution! - @sergio.godinho.oficial , is having a week-long run at the iconic Roxie Theater (Jan 2 - 8), as part of their prestigious First Looks program. Expect world-class visuals by two-time Oscar nominee @luis_sequeira_costumes (The Shape of Water, Nightmare Alley, @it_official ), whose design crafts a desolate and haunting atmosphere. A massive shoutout to @rigo23studio for helping us spread the word with his art, imbuing this exhibition with true Mission District DNA and a defiant San Francisco spirit 👊 More than a screening, this is a cross-generational cultural takeover showcasing the best Portugal has to offer. Join the Resistance. Support independent cinema. STAY SAFE!
