I just released a full length that I’ve been working on for YEARS. This project started in 2016 as Vast Sea and I had written a 70 minute album of Mastodon/Gojira worship stuff that I have since shelved a few years ago. At the beginning of 2022, I wrote a song called The Condemned that got some attention and I realized that I had more fun playing thrash than any other style. Fast forward a few months and I had a full length’s worth of material but no band, so I went on Fiverr, connected with
@dusmanic.n and sent him the demos I had for the album. He turned around drum tracks for the whole album in just a few weeks and absolutely CRUSHED them. Next, I needed to figure out how to financially record, mix, and master the rest of the tracks. I’ve tested out a few mixing engineers but as one person paying for an album, it was just way to expensive to pay for on my own, so I invested in myself and signed up for a fully immersive production course at the end of 2022 to learn how to properly track and mix music. I spent the bulk of 2023 learning, tracking, then endlessly mixing, upgrading gear, revisiting things to the point where I thought I’d never be able to release this fucking album. At one point I just stopped sending mixes to my closest friends because how many times are they going to want to hear a shitty version of the same songs? I took a break, revisited the courses, and finally realized I just needed to set a hard date and release it so I did. I reached out to Joel Grind (Municipal Waste, Power Trip, No Warning, tons others) for a mastering quote and set a deadline. Turned out that it was the best decision as it forced me to stick with my decisions in the mixes and if I made some mistakes or nitpick it afterwards, that’s ok because it’s all a great learning experience. I’m super proud of this release and all of the friends who joined me on the tracks. To anyone that listens to this record, please know that I appreciate you and I hope you enjoy what has become the fruits of countless hours of my labor of love. Now let’s get some shows going and go buck wild.
