It was probably the most violent pivot of my life to go from live performer to songwriter and to do it all while starting over in a new country. People warned me the life of a songwriter is no joke and they weren’t wrong but today I’m feeling so grateful and proud for all the growth this chick has seen in these past years. (Yesterday I was a puddle of tears on my husband’s lap but that’s neither here or there) The reality of my life outside the studio looks a lot like hunting down unpaid invoices and convincing people to pay or credit me for my work that they are profiting off of. I’ve written hundreds and hundreds of songs these past few years & sometimes I want to pull my fucking hair out just having them collect dust in a Dropbox folder but slowly and surely they are beginning to grow legs and find their place in the world and it makes me feel so proud, like I have really dug to the depths of my soul to spawn something from absolute scratch in a foreign land. I have a lot of break downs and so many “fuck it, im quitting” moments that it’s almost laughable that I continue to get out of bed and drag myself into that studio every day. but it’s not the industry or the big cuts that keep me motivated. it’s this deep other worldly passion that I have for the craft that has been with me ever since I wrote my first song at the age of 10. Writing a piece of music that I truly love feels like a connection to another realm, a perfect beautiful place that I only visit while deep in the process and flow of songwriting and it makes all the other bullshit abuse that songwriters receive tolerable, FOR NOW DICKHEADS. So industry, do your worst. This bitch isn’t going anywhere.
