Starting on a new water is never easy, especially when it’s a venue I’d never even stepped foot on before. With little prior knowledge and a notoriously low stock level and regulars mentioning you’re lucky to see two or three fish caught a week - it was always going to be a challenging session 🤔
.
The swim itself had patches of weed and, with a tubing-only rule in place, I opted for a short section of Rock Bottom Tungsten Tubing and 22lb FluoroCast mainline to keep everything nailed down and fishing effectively 👌
.
My rig choice was a Hinge Rig, tied with 25lb SilkFlex Hooklink and a Size 4 Apex Beaked point hook, giving me confidence in the presentation over the varied lakebed ⚙️
.
To my disbelief, just two hours into the session, I was slipping the net under a stunning, dark, wide-framed 37lb 04oz mirror which was an incredible result on a tricky new water and a session I won’t forget anytime soon 🐋
