STEP 1
About Ride A Wave:
Ride a wave is a 100 percent nonprofit organization. We run solely off of volunteer and community support.
Our organization is dedicated to giving kids with disabilities the best day at the beach. We take them surfing, kayaking and boogie boarding.
If it is your first time volunteering, you will be a beach buddy.
Beach buddies do not require any water experience. All you need is a positive attitude and to be 16 years or older.
Beach buddies will be paired up with their participant at the beginning of the day and its your responsibility to sign your participant up for beach events and get them there and make sure they have the best day possible.
STEP 2
How to volunteer:
If you are a new volunteer this is for you.
Click on the link in bio that takes you to our website.
Click on the “beach buddy tab” and then “learn more.”
Read about what volunteering entails.
Follow the steps directed at the bottom of the page and click on “Sign up to volunteer” and fill out the Google form (this will put you on the email list).
You should now recive an email one week prior to each of our camps and that email will have a google form which you have to fill out to be able to volunteer for that camp.
Please note: If you have registered less than a week before a specific camp date, it is very likely you will not recive an email to volunteer for that specific camp date.
If you are under 18 we require you to have a wavier signed by your parents. (the wavier will be on our website. Print it out and bring it signed to the camp).
STEP 3
Camp day:
Our camps start at 8 and end at 1:30
If you are under 18 please bring your signed wavier.
We ask if volunteers can show up at 7:30 am to help with set up and we appreciate if you can stay after for clean up.
7:30 am meet at the marked Ride A Wave trailer in the Cowell’s parking lot.
8:00 am check in at the Ride A Wave tent down on Cowell’s
Beach.
Things you will need
Wear sunscreen and dress in layers. Beach buddies we recommend you wear shorts under long pants so your pants don’t get wet.
We provide a simple lunch for all volunteers and we have coffee and some breakfast items, but make sure to have a good breakfast before you come.
Bring a reusable water bottle and make sure to pack your trash.
We need volunteers for this weekend’s Ride A Wave camp! Please sign up via the link in bio!
Volunteers are expected to show up at 8 am to help set up, and then training starts at 8:30 am sharp.
Dress in layers as it is often cold in the morning and gets hot in the afternoon. Wear something that is comfortable to move around in. While beach buddies don’t get in the water, we do recommend you wear something you are ok with getting wet, as we are at the beach.
If you are under 18, we require you to have a waiver signed by your parents. The waiver is in the “about volunteering” link in our bio. It will take you to our website, then scroll down to the bottom of the page, and it will be there. Print it out and bring it signed to the camp.
Any questions, reach out via DM and we will try to get back to you as soon as possible.
Hope to see you there!! 🌊 🤙
