West Australian singer-songwriter Michael Savage releases his fourth album, Mystery Flight, on limited edition vinyl LP in cooperation with Transatlantic record label Tip Top Recordings "Also of multiple 'Best Country’ WAMI winners, alt-country darlings The Little Lord Street Band, Savage’s solo work skews more towards jangle-tastic, hyper-literate 60s-indebted psych-pop." "Working again with Producer Ricky Maymi (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), Savage’s 'Mystery Flight' is the long-gestating follow up to 2018’s acclaimed ‘Won’t Die Wondering’ (his third straight RTRFM feature album)." Savage and Maymi worked for five years to create the lush, maximalist sound of 'Mystery Flight’, adorning its ten tracks with string arrangements, layers of slide guitar and beds of Beach Boys-esque vocal harmonies. Though sonically the album is a dramatic upgrade on the homespun fidelity of ‘Won’t Die Wondering’, the production foregrounds Savage’s lyrical wit and whimsy - see early single ‘Only To Love You’s pledge to ‘do your dishes or share a light, tolerate your football team’, set amongst the ‘faded wickets on recycling bins’ of suburban Perth. ‘Mystery Flight’ is mixed by long-time Psychedelic Porn Crumpets mix engineer Mike Jelinek, and mastered by Australian stalwart William Bowden.
