Using De La Riva to off-balance and enter into X-guard.
I used to use the cross collar here. Against good people, it started to fall apart. They’d drop their far shoulder, create a weird angle, and it would expose my back or lead to a pass.
Switching to the same side collar changed that completely.
It lets me control that shoulder the entire time, keeps everything tighter, and makes the entry into X much more stable.
Once I’m in, there are a lot of options. Ankle locks, leg drags, bolos, and wrestle ups.
In this clip, I go with the wrestle up. The same side collar makes it hard for them to attack my back as I come up, so it’s very safe.
Very versatile. Aesthetically clean.
