“The Soul of the World is nourished by people’s happiness. And also by unhappiness, envy, and jealousy. All things are one.” - The Alchemist
The Soul of the World is nourished by people’s happiness? If that’s true…and it is…people are very, very, very unhappy. Because The Soul of the World is clearly sick.
Oh, you think I’m talking about climate change? I am. But not the kind that you think. Michael said it right just before he died. He said, “The world is sick. She has a fever.”
We’ve made her sick.
While everyone shouts about the toxins factories spew into the air and the water (as they should), I hear no one shouting about the toxins each of us spews into the world with our words…our attitudes…our states of mind…our social media posts and comments. We feel “right” when we call Maga a cult of bastards or the liberals enemies of the nation and of God.
Will you join me in committing to no longer contributing to the toxins making her sick? No more hatred. No more anger. No more blaming. No more viciousness.
I know it’s hard. But we have to do it. As surely as a good person doesn’t throw garbage in the street…a good person doesn’t spew garbage into the Soul Of The World.
Yes we need to be more green…more climate friendly and aware…MUCH more. All of us. But even more so… we need to cleanse and heal our discourse…our attitudes…our hearts.
The Soul Of The World depends on it.
It depends on us to spread more love than hate, more joy than fear, more kindness than anger.
Starting right now.
For all my cinephile babies out there. Brilliant. This is how a filmmaker conveys the power of universal truths through the beautiful simplicity of cinematic storytelling. So many small moments in this film that scream big things about how superstition, bigotry, sexism, patriarchy, fear, and greed imprison so many; esp women of all ages. At times, hysterical. At other times, heartbreaking. At all times, fascinating.
One of the better films I’ve seen in the last 5 years. I found it on MUBI but it is also available to rent or buy on Amazon.
A wonderful achievement.
Guys…do yourself a favor. If you love acting, if you love live Theatre, and if you love Andrew Scott (cause I sure do), go to the National Theatre Live website (link in my bio and in the story of this post) and subscribe so you can see this absolutely incredible one-man performance.
In addition, there are a TON of other shows to see but let me tell you: “Vanya” is worth the price alone.
One of the most spectacular, nuanced, original, different, poignant, funny and delightful performances you’ll ever see.
My last Mother’s Day post is for Ashley. It’s difficult describe what it’s like watching your child become a parent…watching your little girl become a Mom.
And as good a Mom as anyone could ask for.
The first word that comes to mind for me is “proud”. I am so proud of her and proud to say she’s mine. I watch her mother her children day and day out. She’s as good as it gets. Most especially? Because she does everything from love.
I love you, Ashley. And I’m incredibly proud of the mother you have become.
Mother’s Day post #2.
Getting to spend 2 months living with Ma and getting to have her participate in our Bengali wedding were monumental blessings difficult to adequately explain. These moments weren’t just precious; in many ways they were healing. Esp for Ma.
Though we’re not together today we are always together in heart and spirit. Indrani so loves her Mama. And so do I.
Ami tomake bhalobashi, amar ma
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤣
My first Morher’s Day eve post 😊Grateful, grateful, grateful to be able to not only have my Mommy but to be able to spend Mother’s Day with her and any other day we’d like to spend together.
And any time this day arrives, my thoughts are always on those who either no longer have their Mommy’s with them or no longer have a relationship with them. If this is a hard day for you, you’re on my heart and I wish I could make it all better 😘😘😘😘😘🥰🥰🥰🥰💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
A late TBT photo of us last month in Kolkata. 🥰 I love her so much…and I loved living with her in her/our city. Magical times.
And the magic continues…
🥰💞 💐🥰💞 💐🥰💞 💐 🥰
💞 💐🥰💞 💐🥰💞 💐🥰💞
Considering that once again the entire world is coming together to be with and celebrate him, I thought this was an appropriate TBT post.
I miss you, Michael.
We all do.

I went in hoping to simply enjoy it. Not only does Michael have nearly impossibly HUGE shoes to fill but the trailers for “Michael” didn’t really show any of Jaafar’s acting which gave me some concern. I knew he’d do the performances well but would he be able to be day-in-day out Michael?
The answer is a resounding yes.
Indrani and I LOVED “Michael”. Colman Domingo is completely transformative (Oscar nom is deserved), Juliano Valdi as young Michael is perfect, but the best and biggest surprise was how damn good Jaafar Jackson was/is. I am so proud of him. Even more important; I believe his Uncle would be proud.
If you love/loved Michael, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t also love “Michael”. I have more to say but will say it on OSR.
