One of the hardest parts of helping a parent, or in Lucy’s case her aunt, downsize isn’t the logistics. It’s the dynamic.
The parent doesn’t want to be told what to do. The adult child doesn’t want to be the one telling them. But they still have to come together and make it work.
Lucy calls it the role reversal. And when families are stuck in that conflict, her advice is simple. Save your relationship and bring her in (or a third party). She becomes the good cop, bad cop so you don’t have to.
