Weasel or Stoat? š¤
I'm currently working on an autumnal woodland scene that is taking me an ungodly amount of time to finish. In the meantime I thought I'd start posting up a few of the characters that will be appearing in it.

šLondon Book Fair Ahoy!
Surreal day yesterday as I went up to London to seek my fortune Ć la Dick Whittington (minus the cat). šøš
I designed an eye catching flyer and plucked up the courage to try and talk to the luminaries of childrenās publishing about Monster Ice Creams.
It was a scary process at first but most of the people I spoke to were super friendly and I couldnāt believe that I managed to grab a five min chat with a lady from @walkerbooksuk , who, in the excitement of it all, I forgot to ask her name. š She did though say that my book looked āvery much like a walker bookā which was music to my ears. It was a magical moment and Iām keeping my toes crossed that I hear back, you just never know. š¤š¤

š¬ This was the moment of truth.
15 years after first putting pen to paper on my picture book Monster Ice Creams I finally had the opportunity to read it to a live audience.
It was a moment Iāve thought about many many times. How would it go? Would I have a panic attack and fall over? Would the kids hate it and start booing me? Worse still would they fall asleep.
In the end none of that happened. The book went down a storm and it was probably the most rewarding hour of my career so far.
A massive thank you to Leigh primary school for inviting me in. And to the kids and teachers for listening intently and then asking me about a billion questions afterwards. So much fun.
I even managed to sneak in a live monster drawing session, the result of which apparently looked just like Rayās dad.
A seismic moment for me in my literary journey and just before world book day too!

A while back I wrote a poem about happiness, but itās quite long and needs a lot of illustrating - which I am working on. In the meantime I wondered what a kids poem about sadness might look and sound like. Turns out it was a rabbit with floppy ears whoās lost his teddy.

I just finished this very loooong illustration. It's the middle one of a triptych from a page of my book. I actually painted the background in for a change - proper watercolours and everything. Digital is great but it's never quite the same as the real thing.
