📯 COMING SOON 📯 ‘The Architecture and Writings of E.S. Prior: Challenging the Arts and Crafts’ by David Valinsky will publish on 13th May 2026! 'David Valinsky shows us Prior, the architect and the writer, and uses the writings to explain his architecture. From garden making to conservation, from structure to stained glass, Prior promoted the centrality of makers and materials, developing new roles and methods for architects and building workers in an uncommercial construction process outside the contract system. […] 'In The Architecture and Writings of E.S. Prior, each building is exceptionally well-represented through archival photographs and shown at its best, in excellent, freshly minted photographs and drawings by the author with value added by Prior’s formerly unpublished drawings. As someone who researched E.S. Prior for the good part of a decade, I cannot recommend this book too highly.' – Dr Lynne Walker, Institute of Historical Research, London Pre-order your copy now from ! #ESPrior #ESPriorArchitect #ArchitectureBook #ArtsandCrafts #ArtsandCraftsMovement

Speaking in Cambridge on 14 May, 6pm 👇 Warley Place: where heritage meets ecology For the past four years, I’ve been working on Warley Place Nature Reserve with Essex Wildlife Trust. A site on the Historic England Heritage at Risk Register, but also a rich, protected natural landscape and conservation area. Some structures are falling apart. Some habitats depend on that decay. And not every “repair” is the right answer. I’ll be sharing how we approach those decisions in practice, when to step in, when to hold back, and what that looks like on a real project. With Daniel Lee of @teasels_bio_designs If you like the real side of conservation (not just the polished version), come along. Last month, Cambridge Association of Architects had a brilliant turnout at our Town Hall Event / AGM with a diverse range of voices heard across the profession. What struck us most was the passion to ensure Cambridge sees positive change. We hope the CAA can be a collective voice from across the profession to make a real difference to the future of the city and region. During the event, we discussed about the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation consulatation which closed on the 1st April. We hope as many of you were able to share respond to the consultation. The idea of a CAA Campaign was voiced along the line of 'Hire Local', promoting local practices to help shape our city and region. Ideas emerged such as an exhibition in the Cambridge Room, local awards, collaboration between practices, and speaking directly to developers, the Development Corporation, City Council and the University. If you or your practice wish to express support and be involved in a CAA Campaign, please get in touch. Protecting both function and title of Architect was raised, and in particular the impact from inexperienced companies taking on roles of professional architects, and consultants. This is very much a national issue and we hope that through both the Cambridge Room and a CAA Campaign, greater awareness can be raised with potential clients about the importance of appointing professionals, and preferably local ones. We had the privilege to have Duncan Baker-Brown to discuss these various local ans national topics concerning Architects 🌟
