For a little over a year, I’ve been wanting to change the name of my practice.
“Soul Winds Empowerment” no longer resonated with me like it did when I began.
When I launched my practice as an empowerment coach in 2021, I set out to guide adults to discover their worthiness and authenticity; to know their inner truth and intuitive voice. I wanted to support people in freeing their souls from the beliefs that were limiting them and keeping them stuck. As Clarissa Pinkola Estés said, I wanted to uncover “the flame of the passionate life, the breath to speak what one knows…” I wanted others to experience the Fire and Wind energy that I had discovered for myself, the energy that comes with empowerment.
I still bring this mission to my practice, but when I found Somatic Experiencing, I began to see the importance of grounding Earth and rhythmic Water too. To truly experience freedom, we need to connect with the voices of our bodies—physical sensations, sensory impressions, behavior and movement. The body is where the wisdom is held—the wisdom that sets us free. I invite you to connect with your internal rhythms and seasons. I guide you to gently heal where your system has gotten stuck and restore your ability to experience wholeness and flow.
“Rhythms of Being” gives us permission
to ebb and flow
to move and settle
to create more space
to feel into the present moment
to find our voice
to play and explore
to hold both
to empower ourselves to live more fully.

On September 13th at 11:30am I'll be giving an interactive presentation "Somatic Experiencing for Nervous System Support in times of Stress" as part of this wonderful day-long WellFest event here in midcoast Maine.
I'll be sharing some of the foundational principles of Somatic Experiencing like "pendulation" (a revolutionary concept if you ask me) that you can incorporate into your own life. These principles and practices can help you cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself, support you in times of stress or overwhelm, and increase your resiliency.
There are also many more presentations and activities throughout the day. Come on by!
For more info follow @wellfest_maine and visit wellfestmainecom.ticketspice.com/wellfest-maine. It is a ticketed event so make sure to get yours!

Another round of groups! These are highly stressful times. Join me this July to cultivate ways to increase self-awareness and support your nervous system in times of stress.
It's also a great chance to experience support in community as well. Something I hear often from participants is how much people learn by hearing other people's experiences and reflections.

“Resilient Beings” is for those who want to learn ways to process day-to-day stress.
“Making Our Way Home” (a collab with my friend and college Alexandra Whitney, PhD) is for those who have trauma that they are ready to begin to gently explore and heal.
Both of these experiences are about befriending our bodies, raising self-awareness, connecting with moments of curiosity, and coming home to ourselves.

Navigating our past trauma experiences (and the recurrent stressors in our modern lives) can feel intimidating...
especially if we don't have tools or methods to guide us.
Most of us didn't grow up in emotionally mature families with healthy models of what it can look like to complete waves of nervous system arousal and relaxation.
Really, very few of us have that imprinting.
But when we turn to nature and witness how animals experience what we could easily name as possibly "traumatic" events (eg one of the herd gets eaten or having to run for life to survive an attack), we also see the return to calm after the storm.
According to today's guest, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner Emma Schurink @rhythms_of_being , most humans don't relax and release in this way after a jarring event (whether it's a conflict with a partner or recurrent abuse or just chronic stressors).
Instead we tend to adopt less-than-healthy patterns that help us cope, yes, but don't help us feel deeply well and resilient.
Somatic Experiencing is a trauma healing modality based on the idea that cultivating embodied awareness and incorporating practices like titration, pendulation, orienting, sensation tracking and more can help us to be less reactive, and ultimately create healthier patterns *and* resilience in our lives.
All of our bodies, including our wombspaces, hold story.
And whether those stories are from this lifetime or even intergenerational, finding supportive modalities to guide us through them in healthier ways can be helpful.
If you're curious to learn more about trauma in our bodies and/or Somatic Experiencing, this week's episode is perfect for you.

✨UPCOMING WORKSHOP ✨
If you’ve heard the word “somatic” or you’re curious about the work but don’t know enough to commit, this is a great chance to get a taste of what this practice feels like.
***
As a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, Emma will gently invite you to explore your physical sensations—the language of the nervous system. She will guide you through small movements and embodiment practices, inviting you to notice and track what sensations emerge and what wants to happen next. Through this process of observation and bringing curiosity towards ourselves, we can increase our self awareness and expand our ways of processing stress beyond just our thinking brain.
In this workshop, you will:
- Learn vocabulary for sensations (like heavy, smooth, tense and spacious) and explore what sensations are happening in your body in the present moment.
- Experience subtle waves of nervous system arousal and settling by bringing in gentle movement and then slowing down, allowing the wave to complete.
- Deepen your ability to listen to your system’s needs and gain practices to support your nervous system on a daily basis and in times of stress or overwhelm.
- Share reflections and insights with each other.
Join Emma for this eye-opening and empowering opportunity to take steps towards befriending yourself and the wisdom of your nervous system.
[Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and chronic stress. Though trauma-informed, this workshop is not about resolving trauma or chronic stress. It is about learning the amazing language of sensation and connecting with this language in your nervous system. Connecting with one’s body can be inaccessible or frightening for many people with significant trauma in their system. If you suspect this may be the case for you, please reach out to Emma to see if this workshop is a good fit for you or if one-on-one support would be more supportive.]
