Rooted in contemporary dance, his work explores heritage, storytelling, and visual composition, often blurring the boundaries between stage and screen. Rhys has toured internationally, collaborated with renowned music artists, and created performances that centre cultural memory and embodied expression. Three world premieres, three choreographers, and lots of dance – that’s TANZHOCHDREI. @inkaromani from Spain explores her country’s fascist past, examining how sport, gymnastics, and folk dance were co-opted by the regime. @rhys.dennis from London combines hip-hop, contemporary dance, and rhythms with Caribbean family rituals and symbols of nightlife. @grytingskog looks to the sky, creating a choreography inspired by satellites, astrology, and AI to imagine possible futures. Usually, rehearsals happen behind closed doors – but Probebühne Eins opens them up! Choreographers share excerpts from works-in-progress and test ideas in front of an audience. This time, residency choreographers @rhysdenn , @inkaromani and @grytingskog offer deeper insights into their current research processes. All three are currently preparing new works for TanzHochDrei! Also showing: @kris_tinaschleicher , who shares a fragment of her solo exploring memory, migration and belonging through the body as archive. In When Bodies Speak @rhysdenn is emphasizing a high level of sensitivity and awareness on what happens in the room and what level of camaraderie we create in the studio. Rhys is drawing on release-based techniques, communication through touch, and his background in both Hip Hop and contemporary dance. These classes will guide participants through sequences of flow, contact partner work, rhythm, and musicality. Rhys is a choreographer, dancer & educator. He has co-founded dance company @fubunation_ with a mission to create visibility for people of colour in contemporary dance and create work centered around the Black identity.
