Introducing John Street.
Last year, we completed a full renovation and extension of a classic workingman’s cottage in Ponsonby, partnering with Jones Architects and @spatialstudionz . Located on a narrow street with limited access, we removed the existing lean-tos and shifted the house 700mm to align it with the northern boundary, creating valuable off-street parking.
As part of the renovation, we transformed the interior—adding a new bathroom, kitchen, and refreshed living spaces, all designed by the talented team at @spatialstudionz .

Meet our Directors Matt and Abby!
Starting Rhombus Construction back in 2016, Matt brings 20+years in the building industry with a strong background in bungalow and villa renovations from his early career in addition to architectural loft renovations from his time in London.
Meanwhile, Abby plays an integral role behind the scenes, supporting Rhombus Construction while managing her own business and raising three children. As the company grew, she transitioned into a full-time role, helping to drive its development and operations.
Together, they’ve shaped Rhombus Construction into a trusted name in the industry, helping homeowners adapt and modernise their spaces without losing the character that makes them unique.

We're back at our charming Epsom project!
Since our last visit, demolition at the rear has opened the house right up, making way for the new two-level addition, basement, and garage.
From there, we’ve rolled straight into excavations and are now working through foundations, pushing to get everything in the ground ahead of the weather.

In the work we do, being in close quarters with neighbours is part of it. Inner-city projects come with that territory.
So as a courtesy to both our clients and their neighbours, we make an effort to keep everyone informed on what’s happening and when, especially during any disruptive stages.

We’re excited to share that through our 2025 collaboration with @treesthatcount , we were able to plant 34 native trees!
By donating one native tree for every skip bin used on our sites, these trees went on to support three different environmental projects:
• Trees for Survival Schools Planting Programme, Auckland
• Motutapu Restoration Trust
• Kaipara Moana Remediation
Through this initiative, we helped Trees That Count restore approximately 1,179m² of land and offset the equivalent CO2 emissions of 22 cars driving 20,000km.
We're proud to have been a part of this initiative, and we’re looking forward to doing it again in 2026!

Our projects don’t end at handover.
After every project, we check in at key milestones to make sure everything is performing as intended and that you're supported throughout the lifecycle of your home.
📋 3-month check-in
We assess any minor settling issues or defects. This includes a full inspection of the property, covering plumbing, electrical systems, and finishes.
📋 6-month check-in
We carry out another inspection and address anything that needs attention, while giving clients another opportunity to share feedback.
📋 9-month check-in
This is a final review before the one-year mark. We complete another inspection, including a complimentary paint touch-up for minor scuffs, nail pops, or paint issues.
